OMG! J.J., Thelma and Florida Evans must be beside themselves with grief!! This is hardly what I'd call a "Good Time" for the Evans family!

But I'm sure that young James was a good boy... "always there to help people, and make you laugh with his sense of humor. He was trying to turn his life around. He was a good student, and was seeking his GED. Used to buy his little cousins candy."

Frankly, I'm surprised that the news isn't reporting this as "a carjacking gone wrong" (as they commonly do) -- as though it's a carjacking "gone right" when the badguys successfully deprive a law-abider of his property and don't get shot.

What they need is the ED-209 on patrol...

I just now figured out the name! That's great! A television addict like myself should have known that. Shame on me.

Uh, there isn't much out there that can make Detroit look good...ever.

He wanted to be an airline pilot or brain surgeon. A young life snuffed out so soon.

What size retainer do you have to pay to have your lawyer present when you need to shoot?

How good can it get? Oh that any of us should be that fortunate, if in extremis.

Whatever it is, I'm sure the guy just got a notice in the mail, this week, informing him of the rate bump.

8 rounds. Sounds like he had a 1911 and shot the gun to slide lock. Wonder if he executed a magazine change?

I don't think he executed a mag change; I bet he kept pulling the trigger a few times before realizing he could stop. But who knows; I certainly wasn't there.
Anti-gunners seem to believe that if we just pass enough laws, we can have utopia. Unfortunately, utopia is NOT one of our choices.

Aren't Casinos pistol free zones? Had he left the pistol in his car?

The building that the Greektown Casino is in is actually very large and does not include only the casino. There are several shops that are in no way affiliated with it including a couple restaurants.

That having been said, might be a little dicey from a legal standpoint. I can say that even IF the rest of the building may be considered off limits, the police didn't seem to mind or notice. I'm pretty sure this guy is thankful for the loose interpretation of the law.

Another reason why "Pistol Free Zones" are generally pointless. Maybe the aggressor made the same faulty assumption. How's that for poetic justice? Criminals think guy is easy prey because he's leaving the casino area and assumes the victim is unarmed as a result.
