I've been smack dab in between my room mate and an armed intruder. Roommate opened fire first and droped the intruder before he could get a shot off. I wasn't hit, but very well could have been.

I've been hit with OC before, that didn't feel too great.

I've got peppered in the bird field once too, didnt hurt but it scared me good.

I've been shot direct and indirectly before too. Both of those hurt and scared me good. The direct was a 9mm, and the indirect was a 44 special... thank God I had boots on.

1969-70 some in Vietnam and a lot in Cambodia. Been shot at, mortered, RPG'd, grenade (soviet made), and once got caught in an American made mine field. U.S. B-52's used to drop them along the border "Bouncing Bettie's", pop up about waist high and explode. I got out without so much as a scratch a buddy didn't.

First time was Operation Uphold Democracy Haiti. A guy had his hands cut off for stealing fruit, and a riot ensued. We went in to break up the riot and to extract the victim. We entered the area, and immediately took small arms fire. Rules of engagement at the time forbid us to engage in an actual firefight. We returned fire enough to get ourselves and the victim out of the riot. Came out of that with 2 US soldiers wounded out of the 10 of us. Second time was operation Joint Guard in Kosovo, our convoy was hit with 2 hand grenades and sprayed with small arms fire, luckily no injuries.

Only once, thankfully. A bunch of us teenagers were playing capture the flag in a trailer park in the Keys at some ungodly hour in the morning and a fellow took particular offense to me and a friend hiding behind his fence. We hauled and I don't think neither of us turned around to see if the shotgun was aimed up or at us when we heard the bang.

    Yes.

I'm sorry, but I still don't like to talk about it.

Dear Blind Shooter and other veterans - sorry this is a couple of days late. Thanks for putting yourself in harm's way for me and my family. And for the grief you have yet today as a result.

Iraq 2003. Occasional incoming mortar rounds. Also, some of our guys found some bullet holes in their hummer after a patrol. Those things were (are) so loud you might not hear someone shooting at you from a distance.

    Shot At

I spend my year in Vietnam, so I got shot at a lot. The fire was usually from a distance. I returned fire with my M-16 when the shooters were within small arms range but never found out if I hit anybody. I was in the artillery (175mm guns) so we usually returned fire with the big guns. On one fire mission I recall we had a BDA (Battle Damage Assessment) of 300 KIA.

Had guns pointed at me or grabbed at, shots in the immediate vicinity, etc. but no actual aimed fire when I worked security.

We did have one guy chase a shoplifter and when he came around the corner got ambushed by poorly aimed shots, no hits.

Also have a few stories about other weapons...

Thanks for the Veterans Day thought. A lot of us Vietnam Veterans are still emotional about what we came home to. So we really appreciate any time we are told Thank You.

Every GI and Vet I see I try to thank them. It is important.
