Teen Mother, Suspect Die In Home Invasion Robbery

CONCORD, Calif. -- Concord police are investigating the deaths of a teen mother and a suspected robber who were killed during an apparent home-invasion robbery.

Police say the 17-year-old girl was shot and killed in her townhome by an intruder armed with a rifle early Sunday morning. Her brothers allegedly killed the intruder after witnessing the girl get shot, Lt. Andrew Gartner said.

The Contra Costa Coroner's Office said the robbery suspect, Sean Nelson, 22, died of strangulation and a blunt force head injury.

Police arrested Nelson's younger brother who was waiting outside in a car during the robbery. Derrick Nelson, 18, was being held without bail on suspicion of murder, burglary and robbery.

Police said the Nelsons were longtime neighbors and once friends of the girl, who lived in the house with her brothers, father and 1-year-old son. Sean Nelson allegedly entered the home around 4:30 a.m. and demanded that that family unload property, including electronics, into the car outside.

Gartner said he didn't anticipate charges would be filed against the girl's two brothers in Sean Nelson's death, although the investigation is ongoing.

"There was certainly an element of justification," Gartner said.

Having to kill a man with your bare hands.
A man who has been your literal neighbor and had been your 'friend'.
A person you know not some strange boogeyman but a guy they likely had beers and laughs with prior.
The same guy who shot and killed their sister in their home in front of them, on Christmas eve whilst trying to rob them for their gifts.

For the rest of their natural lives Christmas will forever be associated with this horrible incident.
There is no justice for that. :(
