    Mother Shot, Son Shoots Stepfather

    http://www.cbs46.com/fultonnews/14918378/detail.html

UNION CITY, Ga. -- A Fulton County woman was shot twice in the stomach early Monday morning by her estranged husband, police said.

Fulton County police said Deborah Crumity, 49, was being escorted to her car in front of her home on Leisure Lane in south Fulton County by her 26-year-old son when her estranged husband, Roosevelt Crumity, 47, shot her with a shotgun.

Crumity's son returned fire, shooting his stepfather before calling police, investigators said.

"I had just come outside to walk my dog and I walked back in the house," said neighbor Mary Ann Washington. "As soon as I walked back in the house, I heard a girl scream and then I heard shots -- a lot of shots."

Police said the couple was involved in an on-going domestic dispute, with the woman obtaining a restraining order against her estranged husband before the shooting.

Crumity's son had been walking her to her car in front of her home daily in order to provide protection for her, investigators said.

Both Deborah and Roosevelt Crumity are in serious condition at a local hospital.

No information has been released on any charges that may be filed against the Crumity's son.

Hopefully women in an abusive relationship will learn from this shooting that restraining orders are not worth the paper they are printed on. Good on the son for being willing to protect his mother.

Actually, they are a good "paper trail" that will go in your defense when you have to shoot to keep the abusive spouse off of you.

Unless there is more to it that we are reading about(there always is) then it ought to be a good shoot...escpecially if the husband drew first blood.

It is to bad that the son didn't respond sooner before his mother was shot.
Still, if she lives it was because he was there. He gets a+ for that.

She's lucky that her kid had a gun...or they might both be dead. The son apparently took the threat serious enough that he walked to to her car and armed himself. It saved their lives.

Maybe some of you who are LEO can verify this but I have heard that many times on a domestic dispute the wife wil ask the police to make him stop. When they say we can lock him up she starts saying NO I just want you to make him stop beating me. Other than a paper trail a restraining order won't do much good unless the restraining order is a jail.

Sounds like the son took things seriously and needed to. Have to say good for him.

Agreed. The point I was trying to make was that a restraining order is not all one needs to protect oneself from an abusive spouse/ex/boyfriend/girlfriend/etc.

That was the case here in Arkansas till a few years ago. If she/he wouldn't want to charge, then we couldn't. The law was changed so that the officer could charge. Since then, it has stopped alot of that hebeatmeupofficerbutIstilllovehimanddontwanthimtog otojail crap.

With a restraining order all he has to do is show up, and he can be arrested for violating it. That usually results in an automatic jail sentence.

Thats here though, don't know about anywhere else.

    Same thing in Nebraska.

Soooo.....what we see NOW is victims who won't even tell us what happened, or flat out LIE, to keep us from arresting the S.O.B.

Oh, well, natural selection in action, I guess.

Sergeant Mac, I like your ideas on the natural selection process. You must be a Darwin follower. That's why I say quit worrying about the steroids in sports, soon we can get it back to a fun game.
