Especially in DC, Detroit, or Chicago, the safest cities in the US because gun ownership is forbidden or heavily restricted!

The 7th District. Isn't that where the Washington Naval Yards is located. That is where I may have to go on business. Man, it must be all those illegal guns being sold in Virginia. Bloomberg must be right. (sarcasm!!)

That's got to be a mistake. Maybe they're using knives or some other weapon because there are no guns in D.C.

Close. The Navy Yard itself is on the opposite side of the Anacostia River, in the 1st District. Naval Support Facility Anacostia (at one time a Naval Air Station) is to the south and east, in the 7th District. I got stuck in surface road traffic there a couple of months ago while trying to get to the Navy Yard and unaware that the South Capitol Street Bridge had been closed for repairs. Fortunately, it was during morning rush hour, but it did NOT look like a neighborhood I'd want to be lost in at night!

The area immediately adjacent to the Navy Yard is undergoing a building boom of sorts since the Navy moved a lot of personnel out of leased offices in Crystal City (Arlington) and to the Navy Yard in the last 10 or so years. It's definitely less sketchy-looking than it was just a few years ago, at least during the work day.

That is a total lie. There are no guns in Da Capital, that is why Heller is going to see the Supreme Court in the spring. Must be that their felon crackhead mayor is hearing things. They deserve all they get. Voted idiots and drug addicts into office and then they appointed their pinhead friends and dealers into important positions. Fence the place in and cut off all services, two years tops, end of story.

For the record folks DC hasn't had Marion Barry as it's mayor in 10 years (!) dating back to his departure in '99.
He was succeeded by Anthony Williams who served two terms (8 yrs.) and then replaced last year by current mayor Adrian Fenty.

Today Barry is a Council member representing Ward 8 amongst the Seventh district.

Isn't the 7th District where the majority of the problems lie? Why keep a crackhead liar in office if it's not race-related?

There are multiple wards within each of the districts within DC.
Problems lie everywhere in most every ward in every district within the District of Columbia. That's just he honest truth.
You can get robbed, raped, or run over by a drugged up driver anywhere in DC, literally.

As to Barry winning the 8th Ward, it had nothing to do with race.
The 8th Ward is a ward that nobody wants. When he ran it was either him or nobody. He effectively ran unopposed and he then being in need of a job he took on the task and seat.
You, me, or any DC resident could have then run for that position...if you, me, or anyone else had desired it. That was not the case when it came to the job of 8th Ward rep.
BTW pretty much nobody in DC govt. including then mayor Anthony Williams wanted to see Barry win that seat but there was nothing one could do as again it was a prtty much unopposed run. Barry has long been persona non grata amongst DC govt. circles for political reasons alone, and having zero to do with race.

You should have seen the hand wringing on the news last night about the Heller case and gun crime stats. They were making all the usual comments. This one was funny though. The DC Atty said that if DC's handgun ban in the home was overturned then there would be more handguns in DC. WELL DUH!!!!

    You know what's funny.

DC has the number one highest violent crime in America, per the DoJ U.S. Bureau of Justice statistics. Bordering state Maryland is 4th while VA which borders the other side of DC is 36th.
What is the difference between VA and MD? Largely nothing other than that one is a dangerous place to live with it's citizens by law being held defenseless while the other, largely is not.
Additional information toward as much for all states can be found at; 'State Crime Estimates, 1960-2005' - http://bjsdata.ojp.usdoj.gov/dataonl...ystatelist.cfm
