    Must be my old age......

in a place that bans guns ???

    I don't believe it....guns are banned in D.C.--so these shootings didn't happen in D.C.

Maybe they are being shot here in VA and carried to DC just to make the city look bad!! We all know NO ONE in DC would break the law.
To be honest I have no compassion for the people of DC. When they not only elect the likes of Marion Berry as Mayor, then re-elect him after he is convicted on drug charges. Well it says something about the mentality of the people living there. Maybe when the wall is built along the Mexican border they can come up this way and build one around DC to keep them in as well.

But the overall number of homicides in the region remained steady from 2006, as increases in the District and Prince George's were offset by a substantial decline in Northern Virginia.
Huh, let's see hear, PG county is in Maryland (strict gun laws) = high crime, D.C (strict gun laws) = high crime, Northern VA (shall issue, gun friendly) = low crime.
I just don't understand it? More guns in the hands of law abiding citizens should mean more crime? Right? At least that is according to the Brady web site!!!
Maybe there is something to this gun ownership thing?

If it is not in the US Constitution then the Federal Government should not be doing it.

    Inconceivable! It's Virginia's fault.

...Thanks to a technology known as ShotSpotter, police have a better handle on how much gunfire is taking place in the 7th District -- and the totals suggest that the death toll could have been much greater. ShotSpotter, which senses the sound of gunfire, recorded roughly 2,500 gunshots -- nearly 50 a week -- in the 7th District during the past year, officials said.

Police plan to expand the ShotSpotter program to other districts in 2008.

Citywide, about 77 percent of the year's homicide victims were killed by gunfire...
For those unfamiliar with DC the following is a map detailing the seven districts within the District of Columbia. The seventh district in specific is Southeast DC toward which crime, gun shots, and murder is of no surprise to anyone who is a native. That zone has been bad since before the riots.
