If I had seen what they did to my wife's wagon. I didn't try and shoot them because I only saw the broken window in the SS...
Then after I calmed down and the cops showed up I saw her car:
Some POS White Mitsubishi Mirage 4dr has 5 holes in it right now though, (#1 took out the window).
No, I wasn't fast enough to get a tag, and I'm pissed at myself for that. I am very happy that my dog alerted me to something going on outside though. She's got treats before the police ever showed up. She apparently woke up and barked at the first broken window. I waited to hear anything and moved upon hearing the 2nd window break. 4 WHPD officers responded...only took about 15 minutes...but nobody from the PCSO that has 2 substations within a mile.
Did they get anything? Yeah, a $35 tripod from Walmart and a Disney lapel pin from Tokyo. Both belonging to my wife.
So what were you doing at 4:30 this morning?

Other info from the thread states that his dog woke him by barking after the 1st window was broken. He jumped up to respond after hearing the 2nd window.
I have my opinion on this, and I will almost bet it is very close to most of yours. I will tell you that the local LEO did NOT arrest him, or even chew his butt for doing this. The owner says the Castle Doctrine allows for this type of action.

No, you cannot use deadly force to defend property in the State of Florida.
You have to make the shot when fire is smoking, people are screaming, dogs are barking, kids are crying and sirens are coming.

I guess I don't follow exactly what took place, when. In reading it, it sounds like he didn't do anything 'till the cops showed up and he saw what happened to his wife's car, then he fired 5 shots at the crooks' car? What, they were still there when the cops rolled up? Something is off, here (I guess my understanding?)
Anti-gunners seem to believe that if we just pass enough laws, we can have utopia. Unfortunately, utopia is NOT one of our choices.

Sorry Doc, it is somewhat confusing to read but that is how he posted.
Window 1 was broken, and dog barks.
Owner wakes up, hears window 2 break and jumps up w/ 9mm in hand.
Goes outside and sees 2 guys run back into their Mirage, and he fires 5 shots into passenger side of vehicle.
1 broken window, unknown impact of other 4 shots.
Calls 911

Shooting someone over property isn't cool. Even if it is legal, I would rather not have a death on my hands over something as trivial as a tripod and a Disney pin. Sounds like anger controlled his actions rather than training or self defense.

Ditto and agreed.
Some auto glass and a Disney pin.
I can appreciate his anger, but anger must be tempered by reason and smarts.
Otherwise one is just a dumb animal like any other that might growl and bite when disturbed.

I understand the anger and emotions over being economically violated. In AZ, we do not have the right to use deadly force to protect property. That said, I would not stand by pathetically, watch the damage, and wait for the police to arrive. I would most certainly make my armed presence know, and demand they cease immediately. If they choose to seriously threaten me, THEN I'm in my rights to defend myself. If more folks stood up for their own, the bullies and thugs would not be so fast to take advantage of them.
