85-year-old Burlington woman dies of assault injury

MOUNT VERNON — The Skagit County sheriff's office says an 85-year-old Burlington woman who was knocked down by a fleeing burglary suspect has died.

The sheriff's office says Clara Thorp suffered a broken pelvis when the 23-year-old burglar entered her home on Sept. 24 and demand her car. Investigators say he pushed her to the floor when she said she didn't drive. She never recovered from the injury and died Friday at a care center.

The intruder is jailed in Mount Vernon facing charges of assault, burglary and resisting arrest.

A prosecutor, Rosemary Kaholokula, is deciding whether to upgrade the assault charge to murder.

This is so sad... sad that it happened, and sad that the prosecutor has to decide whether to upgrade the assault charge.

Yeah that kind of stuff gets me too, I mean the low -life broke into this woman's home and killed her, how hard can that be to charge him.
