Never warm your car up with the keys in it and unlocked.
    That's good advice.

So's this: If you think defending your insured property with lethal force will be all sweetness and light, consider what could happen if everything doesn't go well. Like in this case. Dumb.

Did you catch the Mary Mills interview about her house getting hit. They said " we found the shell from the bullet" in the hall way. Why do they let anyone talk about guns or ammo, cause they NEVER get the facts or details right.

At least they didn't say he went shooting up the neighborhood with an assault weapon.

2 to 5 minutes!? Y'all must have different snow and ice than we do in Texas.
Just proof that it is not always smart or correct to make blanket statements. Proper way to say it would have been to say that vehicles parked in garages MAY not need more than 2 to 5 minutes to defrost and warm the interior of a vehicle.

    Buttermilk,

There was no snow or ice evidence in the video, nor even evidence that it was cold outside enough to wear a winter coat as the BG was sporting a relatively thin cotton day jacket.

And FWIW I'm in W.MA where during winter season when it snows it snows and there is ice on the window most every late fall and winter season morning.
My car is 15 yrs. old and the AC compressor seized up years ago. It clears ice running on engine block heat only with the air diverter set to 'defrost' (again with no AC compressor assist) and my window is deiced within roughly two minutes max...as I stand outside the car scraping ice & snow off the exterior surface with an ice scraper. The car heats up when driven within approx. the same time.
My wifes SUV is 4 yrs. old with a functional A/C compressor and it does same for defrosting in duration and it takes about 3 to 5 minutes to heat up the interior to toasty warm but it has alot more air volume inside than my sedan.
Agreed though, I'd bet we do have different ice and snow than in TX.

Every state seems to give it a different name, just in the same her in Mi you must get a permit to buy a gun, but that does not give you the right to carry it. One more thing if your car is stolen and the keys are in the ignition, the insurance company will refuse to pay for anything. Remote car starters are a real cheap investment.

IMO, what a waste of gasoline. Wear an appropriate coat, hat and gloves and let the car warm up while you scrape the windshield or just toss a bucket of room temperature water across the windshield. That works great.

As for the shooting, while I agree it was wrong, a similar incident happened in Cincinnati last year except the car owner shot and killed the underage thief. No charges were filed even though "defense of property" does not justify shooting in Ohio. But apparently the neighborhood and the prosecutor were tired of criminals.
