Robbers following victims home, then robbing them at gunpoint.
Police hoping surveillance images will help lead to arrests

    by Eli Stokols, News2

    January 23, 2008

ARAPAHOE COUNTY (KWGN) Authorities here are looking for a group or young men who are suspected in a string of armed robberies dating back to mid-October, with the most recent one taking place Monday.

According to Sheriff Grayson Robinson, the suspects typically follow the victims in their vehicles back to their homes, where they then rob them at gunpoint in their own driveways or garages.

"Each of the suspects have shown handguns and they typically demand wallets, purses, cash," Robinson said. "They've asked for the keys on some occasions, but we think that's so they can eliminate the opportunity for the victim to follow them and get identifying information."

But, in using a stolen credit card, the suspects have given police an important clue as to their identities.

Surveillance cameras at a convenience store captured the transaction--and the faces of two suspects.

"We really need the public's help with this," Robinson said. "We want anyone who recognizes these guys, or who knows something about these crimes, to call our office at (303) 795-4711."

Four of the six robberies have taken place along the Smoky Hill Road corridor between South Chambers Street and E-470; and one took place in the area of East County Line Road and South Clarkson Street.

Another occurred near the intersection of South Quebec Street and Mac Arthur Ranch Road in Douglas County. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is also involved in this investigation.

Always watch your 6 when driving. If you suspect you've seen the same vehicle(s) too many times, keep driving. I was followed in our little-bitty sleepy (gang-infested) town just before Christmas. I circled my neighborhood, then another neighborhood and then went home. The miscreants were still there. I exited my vehicle, .40 in hand and pretended I didn't see them. The area was lit with a super-bright 60 watt pigtail lite (zzzz). I guess they saw my pistol and kept driving. Say hello to my little friend! Living in Orlando/Tampa for 24+ years heightened my awareness. Pueblo is a small town with big town aspirations.

This can happen anywhere, even the little out of the way towns that never see a problem.

We had same problem, punks following and robbing people after leaving the casinos in Detroit a while back. They followed an off duty cop, robbed him but the copper called another cop on the phone right after, and they caught the BG about a mile down the road. The cop was about the 10th victim of these punks.

To me a statement like that suggests that you would look forward to being in a possible life or death situation. I bet your wife, child, neighbor, girlfriend or whom ever would have quite the different view to such a comment.

Robbers following victims home, then robbing them at gunpoint.
Since being pursued a few times in the past ~15yrs, I try to be vigilant about maintaining a measure of randomness in my daily travels. The couple of folks who know I do this think it paranoid beyond belief. Yet, when the next instance occurs, they shut up in the stark realization of how it could have ended, had I not taken the precautions. (Funny how simple that is, when it's in your face.)

On a daily basis, I try hard to vary the route, the speed I travel, the timing of turns, the number of turns I make in which direction. On the route toward my home, there are a half dozen arterial streets that can be taken, some of which are known to locals and some only to "outsiders." Within ~3mi of my home, I have a handful of neighborhoods with long, slow streets, in which there are also a variety of exits. Each can clearly show a pursuer, and each allows a simple method of shaking the tail. In the several instances I have identified, I have shaken the tail each time. While it's hard to be certain, of course, I don't believe I have been successfully tailed for long, since then.

Vigilance. Randomness. Vary the patterns of speed, timing, number/direction of turns. After doing this for awhile, it becomes a part of your normal method, such that it takes no big effort, doesn't intrude on your schedule, and is even hard for others (ie passengers) to detect.

I could be wrong, but I think he was just being facetious.

If I am not mistaken that Dr.'s family in CT that was robbed, rapped, and murdered this past summer was followed home. You cannot be sure that robber is the only thing on their mind and you can't be sure that cooperation will guarantee you live through the experience. Be cautious, be alert and the heck with what others think of your safety precautions.

This is exactly the point I was making to my wife recently when I suggested (strongly) that she try shooting the .357 again, as it's been a looong time since she last wanted to go near it. Her attitude is that if somebody attacks or breaks in while I'm out, just give them $$ and the TV and they'll go away nice. Not so much . . .

I'm trying to help her see the sense in protecting not just herself, but my 13-year-old daughter as well.
