    Security Guard Shoots Intruder

StarExponent.com - The Culpeper Star Exponent | Security guard shoots man at Lake of the Woods

A security guard at Lake of the Woods in Orange County shot a man in the hip shortly after midnight Sunday, causing a minor injury.

According to State Police spokesperson Sgt. Les Tyler, the guard was investigating a 911 call from a residence on Wilderness Lane. Tyler said a man answered the door, became combative and assaulted the guard, who then drew his gun.

The man was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, then sent to the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond. His injuries are not life-threatening, Tyler said.

The State Police have not released any names, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Good luck to the guard, hopefully it was a good shoot.

    Why was a guard investigating a 911 call ?

Do they get dispatched to them by the 911 dispatchers?

I am guessing it is a private gated community.

EDIT: Yup, private community in NoVa:

Not enough info here to say what happened. Was it the homeowner who answered the door? Who called 911? Was the gaurd at the right address? Did the rent a cop insist on entering the property and try to force his way in, thus the homeowner "assaulted" him when he tried to keep him out?

Looks like it was a Domestic Dispute, the Security Officer knocked on the door because they heard an ongoing argument inside the home. Other details are still short...

    Domestic dispute leads to shooting

After the Orange County Sheriff's Office got an early morning call for a domestic dispute in Lake of the Woods yesterday, a security guard went to investigate, according to state police.

When the guard got to the residence where the dispute was suspected, around 12:37 a.m., he heard arguing and knocked on the door, said Sgt. F.L. Tyler of the state police.

The man who answered the door at the house in Locust Grove on Wilderness Drive "became combative with the security guard," Tyler said, and then he assaulted the security guard.

Tyler said the guard then pulled his weapon and shot the man in his hip.

He said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening and the state police are investigating the call.

Charges are yet to be filed and state police are not releasing names of anyone involved because the incident is under investigation, Tyler said.

I assume you're offering this up from an objective view of the circumstances.

Will be interesting to hear the full story. From what I have seen so far it does not sound like a good shooting. Simple physical assault does not justify the use of deadly force, ESPECIALLY when security have other means of subduing the suspect.

since when are we allowing security guards to be armed? :P
War is not the ugliest of things. Worse is the decayed state of moral feeling which thinks nothing is worth a war.
