Homeowner, Shot Twice, Returns Fire
Thonotosassa Man Wounded In Gunfight At His Home
A Thonotosassa man was shot twice early today during a home invasion, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
The gunman has not been caught.
Shortly after 12:30 a.m., a man pushed open a sliding glass door at 3408 Cooper Road and fired a gun, Carter said.
A resident, Grover Cochrane, 59, was shot twice in the arm and pulled out his own gun and fired at the intruder, who escaped, Carter said.
Cochrane's girlfriend saw the shootout, and her name is being withheld by the sheriff's office as a witness.
The victim has been "very uncooperative" with investigators and has not given a description of the attacker, Carter said.
Anyone with information should call the sheriff's office at (813) 247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
Not sure why the victim is refusing to cooperate with authorities, unless there is more to the story.

Either there is more to the Story or the victim doesn't want to give any statements until he consults with an Attorney. In either case, keeping his mouth shut is the 2nd smart thing he did.

Actually, that is a smart idea. Don't say a word until you talk to an attorney. It's just that the press reports that with a negative slant. Instead of saying something like: "being uncooperative", it would be better to state "the victim is withholding comment pending his constitutional right to consult an attorney". The latter sound better, in my opinion.

Good point PCmaven, I liked this quote
"the victim is withholding comment pending his constitutional right to consult an attorney". The latter sound better, in my opinion.
Exercising more than one right in this case.
