With all the shootings hitting national news over the last week...and with SCOTUS reviewing gun rights...me thinks there is a consertive effort to influence public perceptions...negatively.

Odd you should mention that. And in an election year at that! I'm with you on the gut feeling here. That doesn't make us out to be paranoid does it? Above all, I pray for the victims and their families.

this one says that she killed 2 people, then herself. They sound almost proud that LEOs were there within 4 minutes. 4 FREAKIN MINUTES! The relatively low body count has nothing to do with the LEs legitimately quick response. The shooter ALLOWED others to live. The decision was hers and hers alone to make.

I sure wish one of these folks would be caught and they would disclose that their choice of target was influenced by it being a "Gun Free Zone". Every single one of these incidents are at or in a gun free zone. I would also like to see a couple of these stopped by a CCW holder.
It is important to put and increase pressure on legislators to not get caught up in any hype and add further restrictions. Write letters, faxes, and emails. Call them too.

Unfortunately, "sheeple" are much more likely to take this as "evidence that guns are bad, mmmmkay."
These types of events tend to lead to stricter gun control. Remember the Virginia tech shootings? All people could talk about is how guns are evil, littered with idiotic statements such as --- "A glock 22 is named for how many bullets it holds"... etc. etc.
These events are BAD for our cause when viewed through the lens of the illogic. No amount of arguing our case, though stronger, will help.

There have certainly been a lot of well publicized shootings lately. While I don't think it's a coordinated set of events by some unknown force, the concentrated media coverage definitely has that "here, allow us to force our view's on you" feel to it. And a lot of people just don't know any better.
I wish we had a system where just about everybody recieved a little training experience with guns. It would do so much to get rid of the "guns make loud noises and scare us so they must be bad" crowd. Education is key.

Word is the 21 year old gunwoman was in an on-going conflict with the 2 women that she shot.
Basically everyone in class of twenty was at the mercy of the gun woman.

4 minutes is a REALLY good response time and I challenge anyone on the board to match it keeping everything in mind.
That being said, the average gunfight is over in 6 to 12 seconds IIRC. This just underscores the need for nationwide concealed carry. The SCOTUS has ruled that the police are NOT here to protect us and hopefully they will follow up on that with a ruling in the Heller case that will uphold the right of qualified citizens to carry and possess.
As we vote this year, we must look closely at who will vote in our favor!!
Also, it is time for us to tell the media to quit giving this kind of story so much air time. Too many of these young, impressionable children are impressed by these stories and want their 15 minutes of fame. The media should be villifying these killers instead of glorifying them. It all begins at the local level and the TV station owners do listen when people start calling in and walking in.
We don't need a national ID card or concealed carry card or any more than we already have. All police agencies are connected by the NCIC and to duplicate this info would be redundant, very costly, but more important, would put our info out there for some crook to use illegally.
Speak up, speak out, be sure your conversation with others about these shootings villifies the criminals.

Since Katrina the population/traffic in Baton Rouge has exploded. The shooting occurred at 8:30ish am, which is still heavy traffic. I'll bet the shooting was completely over before 911 was even called. I'm definitely pro-carry, but it was probably over so fast that even if someone were in the class with a ccw they may not have been able to respond quick enough to prevent this. If someone is bent on shooting a couple of people then themselves, they could do that in seconds. Sadly, sometimes it just doesn't work out favorably.
I have some leo contacts in BR, I'll try to get some non-media info and post it here later.

Guarding against suicide murderers is all but impossible, unless you have a full, 100% cordon with tightly controlled entry points involving far more than a partial scan of pockets, bags and purses, and even then it's not a guarantee. On an open, publicly-accessible campus, it's an impossible task.
The only thing that can offer people a chance of defense in a situation blowing sideways RIGHT THEN is for folks to actually be carrying their own defensive tools. And the only way to allow for that is to ELIMINATE silly policies, ordinances and laws that crucify upstanding folks for doing so.
The logic is simple: Gunshot wounds kill, thus guns are bad, therefore everyone who carries one is evil ... hence, we must get them and folks who carry them as far away as possible. This logic results little other than disarmament of the innocent.
