Armed Man Terrorizes K-Mart Customers - News Story - KIRO Seattle
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A man armed with a gun stolen from a Whatcom County K-Mart ran through the store, screaming and knocking over customers Thursday morning, police said.
Police said the man held a knife to the store's manager, smashed a display case and stole a gun and ammunition.
He ran through the store, bumping into people, and then went outside, where he confronted a sheriff's deputy. He did not fire the weapon or point it at anyone, police said.
He threatened to kill himself but eventually surrendered, police said.
"We saw people running out of the store, people (who) witnessed this event inside the store. We ask them to please contact us so that we can get their information," said Deputy Chief David Doll of the Bellingham Police Department.
The store was closed while police searched for a possible accomplice.
A Bellingham man in his mid 20s is being held on suspicion of armed robbery.
