UGLY: Armed Man Terrorizes K-Mart Customers

Armed Man Terrorizes K-Mart Customers - News Story - KIRO Seattle

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A man armed with a gun stolen from a Whatcom County K-Mart ran through the store, screaming and knocking over customers Thursday morning, police said.

Police said the man held a knife to the store's manager, smashed a display case and stole a gun and ammunition.

He ran through the store, bumping into people, and then went outside, where he confronted a sheriff's deputy. He did not fire the weapon or point it at anyone, police said.

He threatened to kill himself but eventually surrendered, police said.

"We saw people running out of the store, people (who) witnessed this event inside the store. We ask them to please contact us so that we can get their information," said Deputy Chief David Doll of the Bellingham Police Department.

The store was closed while police searched for a possible accomplice.

A Bellingham man in his mid 20s is being held on suspicion of armed robbery.

I am waiting for the defense attorney to ask that the charges be reduced to simple robbery, since the man obviously wasn't armed until after he stole the gun!

Good point, unless he had a knife on him to start with or stole something after he stole the gun. Maybe they are saying he was armed with whatever he used to break the glass case, I would doubt that he used only his hand.

That's not far from where I live. It's always a little more scary when this kind of Stuff happens close to home.

Finally the gun grabbers have their incontrovertible proof that it IS THE GUN that causes crime. This poor man was minding his own business until the sight of that evil gun drove him into a frenzy. Remove the gun and he will return to normal. -Jay

How about a 5 day waiting period to enter a K-mart following a background check?

I wouldn't be surprised. I can see it happening. All semblances of sanity have disappeared from our society. Why not?

You mean with all the gun laws and safe-zones a nutbag can STILL go into a store and pull a knife and steal a gun?!?

    I'm shocked.

    Ugghhh
