Press-Telegram - Man shoots alleged intruder in downtown condoLONG BEACH - A downtown Long Beach resident shot and killed an alleged intruder Friday after he saw a man attempting to climb into his condo through a window, authorities said Saturday.
Authorities responded to an incomplete 911 call in a condominium complex on the 200 block of West Seaside Way near The Pike at Rainbow Harbor at about 4:30 p.m., said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.
When police arrived, they discovered a 21-year-old Long Beach man who had been fatally shot.
The resident of the condominium, a 26-year-old man, was in his home when he found a suspect entering his residence through a window, Pratt said. The resident, fearing for his life, armed himself and fired at the suspect, she said.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was being withheld Saturday pending notification of family.
Due to the circumstances, the incident could be ruled as a justifiable homicide, Pratt said. The incident is still under investigation.
Residents of the Camden Harbor View complex said police had blocked off a large section of the complex directly across Seaside Way from the Pike parking lot on Friday.
"I just came to get a parking pass and saw yellow tape everywhere," said resident Denise Daugerty.
Daugerty said residents in the normally quiet, upscale complex are now shaken.
"This is a nice place," she said. "I've never heard of anything like this before. We're right across from the Pike for God's sake."
Another resident, who asked not to be identified, said the complex sent out a letter on Saturday morning informing residents there was a break-in and the perpetrator was "no longer at large."
An employee at Camden Harbor View's welcome center would only say that police are investigating the incident.
Pratt on Saturday would not confirm the name of the complex, the exact location of the shooting or how many shots were fired.
In a stretch of units where residents said the shooting possibly occurred, a window of one of the first floor condos had an unusual "No Trespassing" sign:
"No Trespassing. Violators Will Be Shot. Survivors Will Be Shot Again."
