Must have been a slow news day in Crawford. Shame on the Dane for not appreciating local customs! Seems to me Americans abroad have been excoriated for years for not understanding local culture, to wit the "Ugly American" syndrome - so I guess we've successfully exported that to the EU.

Bottom line is, all ended well. Stranger on property, property owner challenges, stranger leaves. Hardly man-bites-dog news.

Well of course, that should be common sense for us natural born citizens! But some of these reporters come from places with strange customs and vast cultural differences from us here in Texas. Places like San Francisco, New York City, and Europe!

He was, but then those with their heads in the clouds frequently step in potholes. Particularly in a free land with free men/women able to defend their properties.

I'm sure the lesson he thought he learned was: Texans are insane. (Leastwise, that's what his colleagues are going to ensure he comes away with, like as not.) What he should come away with is: the difference between a serf and a master of his own lands is, and always will be, one's ability to defend it. Though, we'll have to see if his thinking goes that deep. It would be intersting to see his next article or two.

If you're walking around talking on your cell phone, crossing streets, and so totally oblivious to your surroundings that you fail to notice that the person in front of you is pointing a gun at you, you aren't safe anywhere.

a lot of folks living out in the country in texas stay armed when outside their house. we get those 6ft rattlers and rabid skunks all the time. and it is not against the law to be armed on your own land. stranger beware dont rattle or smell.
