Terror attack thwarted by alert civilians near Shilo | Jerusalem Post
A Palestinian knifeman has been shot dead after attempting to stab two Israeli hitchhikers near Shilo, Judea and Samaria police said. Police spokesman Dani Poleg confirmed that the knifeman was killed by an Israeli civilian who fired on him using his handgun.
The incident took place at a hitchhiking post on highway 60, between Shilo and Ali Junction.
"We have a military report saying the knifeman is now dead. Two civilians were at the scene during the attack, and one fired on the Palestinian attacker. We're taking eye witness testimonials on the scene at the moment, and the initial investigation is not yet complete. More details will be released soon," Poleg said.
Two knives have been recovered from the Palestinian's body, and no injuries among Israelis were reported.
An initial police investigation found that the assailant had approached the two hitchhikers with his hands in his pockets, and began asking them questions in English. Seconds later, he attempted to stab one of the Israelis. The latter drew his handgun and fired on the knifeman, killing him. A second knife was later found during a search of the attacker's body.
Police said the knifeman was aged around 20, and came from the Hebron area. He was apparently a student at BirZeit University.

Some comments:
1. We don't call these crimes - they're terror attacks
2. I'd love to know how fast the Israeli reacted to the attempted knifing. What was the elapsed time between the start of the knife attack and the response by the civilian.
3. I'm sure the two Israelis were on Orange alert as soon as the Palestinian approached with his hands in his pocket.

When will they learn to stop messing with the Israeli's? They don't play games. Almost all of them are armed and have military training.

Unfortunately, that's not true - most Israelis are not armed. In order to get one handgun, you have to either live in certain designated areas that are considered necessary for the defense of the country; work in security; or have a business that involves transporting people or valuables.
However, many Israelis are armed and it's always comforting to see someone carrying (if someone carries, they carry open) on a bus, at the mall, at a wedding ( I was at a wedding the other night and counted 5 people carrying). There are also soldiers all over the place who always have their weapon with them.

The majority are not armed. But they all have something that is equally important. Mindset. Israelis fight ferociously because they have to. They are surrounded by peoples that are fundamentally opposed to their very existence. One of my instructors, a retired Israeli paratrooper, said it best. Just like those stupid terrorists; bringing a knife to a gunfight......

Thank you for setting me straight on that. I must have had bad info.

Aren't we getting in the same situation here in the U.S.A.? Unfortunately, a lot of our enemy are within our borders.

I wish my employer was the same way. I don't "play games" but my employer wants me to.

There's a few groups of people that I consider it 'lethal' to take up arms against. One is the Americans, obviously. Also on that short list are the Israelis. Nobody is unbeatable but DAMN they make it tough. Some of the roughest people on the planet live in that narrow strip of land.

With an insider's view, it's no wonder we can not win any of the domestic "wars" drugs, gangs, immigration, organized crime, it just goes on and on.

So a knife-wielding racist constitutes a "Terrorist Attack"?
A sign of the times I guess.

I spent a couple of weeks in the Haifa area back in '97 and my observations were that approximatly half (probley less, but that's how it seemed to me looking around....either way I saw a lot of armed citizens there) of the population around me was carrying a concealable sized sidearm. Some open carry, but most were concealed at least slightly. Jackets riding up exposing OWB holsters were my most common observation when I was paying attention, which was pretty often. Those people were leary of everyone at first but opened up quickly after determining my buddies and I posed no threat....a wonderful people and a good experience. I also noted that the Israeli's play NO games WRT crime and terrorism.
Good job on those Israeli's bringing a gun to that knife...er...gunfight.
