Machete-Wielding Teens Attack Australian High School
    Monday, April 07, 2008

SYDNEY — A group of teenagers armed with baseball bats and machetes attacked Australian teachers and students on Monday, injuring 18 people and forcing a high school in Sydney to be locked down, police told the Reuters news agency.

Five youths barged into the morning assembly at Merrylands High School in southwest Sydney, witnesses said, grabbing students before smashing windows at the school.

The school then locked its students in classrooms as the youths, who were not students, went through two school buildings, smashing more windows and equipment, Reuters reports.

"They caused a considerable amount of damage," a police spokesman told reporters. "There have been some assaults. But there are no serious injuries as a result of those assaults."

Attacks on schools are rare in Australia, where schoolyard security is usually low-key but southwestern Sydney has seen a growing problem with youth gangs.

Ambulances treated 18 people for minor injuries, including cuts from shattered glass, and shock, but one student and one teacher were taken to hospital with minor facial injuries and severe bruising.

Dozens of distressed parents rushed to the school, some in tears, police said.

Police arrested five boys, aged 14 to 16, after the attack.
How fast could an armed teacher have stopped this?

I just saw this on Fox News a few minutes ago...and as mentioned on another thread, we will have this same crap all over our cities if the future if we don't crack down on gang/dirtbag behavior.
As with this very attack, crimes are being committed by younger and younger violators...
Youth taking on the actions of older dirtbags deserve only the penalties of older dirtbags...OMO, but NO MERCY!

    Stay armed...stay safe!

You kind of have to wonder, what are these guys thinking as they do this? Revenge? Just plain ol' malicious, anti-social behavior? What is there goal? What do they think they are going to accomplish? Do they think there will be no consequences?

I think the goal was to terrorize, to make people fear them.

Some people think fear = respect

    Agreed.

Additionally mix in ennui along with fatalistic positioning as well as a healthy dose of self hate and you get activity such as this and violent crime by persons and children too such as this.

Fear equates to respect as those who seek said fear based respect are themselves fearful persons.

These are the types of tactics that have been going on in Indonesia with Muslims attacking Hindu and Christian groups with machetes and impact weapons. It works great once the government has disarmed the intended victims.

But GPS, guns kill people! So once the evil, eeeeeevil guns are gone we will all live in Utopia and ride our unicorns around..... Sorry, I was only going for mildly sarcastic and it kinda got away from me.

All I know is, if we ever have kids, the wife and I are homeschooling them. I'd rather fix the problem and have a safe, well run public/private school system, but how do you line up millions of negligent parents give them a good slap across the face?

Didn't they also outlaw swords and long knives over there a few years back? Geez! Don't criminals understand that guns and other weapons have been outlawed? Why/how do they keep getting them?

Laws are created so that when they are broken, there is legal ground to pursue prosecution and punishment for having broken the law. Laws don't prevent crime. Only law abiding citizens prevent crime by adherence to the law. Since criminals don't adhere to laws, that is why they are criminals. The only way to prevent crime is to prevent criminals from being created.

So, if we get rid of laws we have no more criminals and everything is OK. Get rid of the military and we will have no more wars Get rid of laws and we don't need police to enforce them. Therefore, we should have no more crime. (Reference: Berkeley vs. Marine Corp. recruitment station.)

Enough sarcasm for now! The only way to prevent crime is to eliminate the source - the criminal. When we finally learn that object lesson, we will begin to get crime under control. We will never totally eliminate it, but it won't be as rampant as it appears tp be now. All the laws in the world: past, present, and future, do nothing for us if not enforced. And stupid, feel-good laws which neither accomplish the goals of disarming criminals and providing sufficient punishment for those who break the law need to be repealed.
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes ... they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Thomas Jefferson
