Victim accidentally shoots self
St. Petersburg, Florida - St. Pete police say 39-year-old Richard Summers saved his own car from being stolen, but shot himself in the leg during a struggle with the suspect.
Police responded to 10265 Gandy Blvd. North after a report of a burglary suspect being held by the vehicle owner around 6am.
Upon arrival officers found Summers holding down the suspect after suffering a gunshot wound to the upper right leg. Police learned that the suspect, 18-year-old Marlos M. Conrad, followed Summers' fiancee to the complex.
Conrad then allegedly pulled up next to the GMC Yukon Denali owned by Mr. Summers. Police say when the car's alarm was activated, the fiancee called for Summers, who came out armed with a hand gun.
According to the report, Summers then pulled Conrad out of the vehicle and the two began to tussle, which led to Summers shooting himself in the upper right leg.
Police say he still managed to subdue Conrad until they arrived.
Detectives later learned Conrad was wanted in connection with two other car thefts in Tampa.

I would be rethinking the gun and ammo I was carrying if I was shot in the leg and still able to get the upper hand on the BG.

Interesting how they call that "accidentally shots himself"
Should have been something like "man legally carrying a firearm injured while subduing a dirt bag criminal...said dirt bag criminal will be held liable and criminally responsible for the injury"

I don't suspect that many handgun rounds would incapacitate someone with a leg injury.

Depends if bone or a major vessel is hit. You can die fairly quickly if the femoral artery is hit.

True, but statistically, its not a stopping wound. The statement that he needs to rethink his ammo is not particularly true.

Good ol' Florida *rolls eyes*.
Gun control can be blamed in part for allowing 9/11 to happen.

The suspect was already involved in two previous attempts? Why should these animals be able to keep wasting O2? The sooner the 'lead mangnents' start collecting, the better...
