A baby was recovering Monday morning after someone shot and wounded him and killed his father as they played across from the baseball field at North Miami's Claude Pepper Park.
The 1 ½-year-old was shot at least once, possibly in the arm, said North Miami Lt. Neal Cuevas. He was in stable condition early Monday.
The boy was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Television footage showed the boy, wide-eyed, clinging to his mother in a wheeled stretcher as paramedics rushed him into the trauma center.
His father remained on the street, shot dead and covered by a sheet.
The man in his 30s had been playing with the boy about 8 p.m. near their house in the 1100 block of Northwest 134th Street.
Somebody unleashed a hail of bullets at the man, possibly chasing him a few feet, Cuevas said.
''There was quite a few casings on the ground,'' he said.
The name of the boy and his father have not been released.
