Theft stopped in Tempe, AZ

Neighbors say Jason Lester had been the victim of copper theft one too many times. Finally, he took matters into his own hands.

On Tuesday night, cops say Daniel Holmes tried to Rob Lester's truck outside his home near Southern and the 101. But what Holmes didn't know was that Lester, a construction worker, was waiting for him.

Police say Lester installed a camera on his roof and a sensor or a laser near his truck. When the alarm went off at 4 am, Lester confronted Holmes.

Before cops arrived, neighbors say Lester shot up Holmes' white pick-up truck. Holmes was arrested and taken to jail on one count of misdemeanor theft.

Police say they're still investigating and depending on what comes out of their investigation, they may charge Lester with shooting at the suspect.

At least the TV report correctly identifies Lester as the victim. The neighbors interviewed had no problem with his actions... but, too bad this isn't Texas.

Let's see here. Lester left COPPER in his pickup, parked in his driveway and then shoots the thief? It looks something like a setup to me. Here in the PRC he'd fry and in Texas he'd fly!!

The poor guy's an electrician, and out here most of the garages can't fit a full-sized pickup. Besides, garages out here serve the function of basements in the rest of the country - holding all the kid's outgrown clothes and toys, and miscellaneous junk. But I agree with your last sentence! I'm waiting to see if Lester gets prosecuted.

don't see a setup he parked his truck like he soes every night only now he set up an alarm system,he didn't call dirt bag up and invite him over,and yep in Texas if he woulda killed him he would be home sleeping without any worries.
