The man who shot a woman and then killed himself inside an Aventura Mall parking garage has been identified as Alejandro Ruiz, 36.
Police believe Ruiz attacked a former lover, a 44-year-old Macy's employee Sunday night. The woman, who has not been identified, was walking to her car.
Wounded in the neck and shoulder, she is recovering at a hospital. Ruiz put the gun to his head and shot himself dead, police say.
In April, he was arrested for breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment in Miami Lakes.
According to a Miami-Dade police report, he had moved out on April 24, returning his set of keys to the woman's father.
Ruiz ''did not have any of his property inside the apartment and had completely moved out,'' a report said.
But three days later, police say, Ruiz opened a window, climbed inside and began arguing with the woman.
Ruiz ''told the victim that he was taking her cellphone because she would not take his calls. [Ruiz] also stole the victim's car keys,'' according to a police report.
His ex-girlfriend later filed a temporary restraining order against Ruiz. By law, someone with a restraining order against him cannot carry a firearm.
Ruiz had been working at Ultimate Flyers in Hialeah, with his old pal Jorge Caragol.
He had been with the woman for about four or five years, and later stayed with the Caragols in Miramar for brief spell. On Friday, he left to stay with a cousin, said Lilian Caragol, Jorge Caragol's wife.
She called him a great salesperson.
''He would always say he could talk a cat out of a fish truck because he was so good at doing sales,'' Lilian Caragol said. ``He was always happy and really talkative.''
