Two officers of the Arizona Department of Public Safety shot the driver of a stolen SUV at least five times Friday night when the man got out of the vehicle shooting.

According to information from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting suspect was identified as Scott R. Rapp, 49, of Phoenix. According to information from DPS, officers from the district south of Flagstaff located a reported stolen SUV and followed the SUV on Interstate 17 until it entered the DPS Flagstaff district

DPS spokesman Lt. James Warriner said Monday that officers pulled the man over Friday night at about 8:40 p.m. on Interstate 17 about 25 miles south of Flagstaff, and “as soon as he pulled over, he came out shooting.”

According to the sheriff’s office report, two DPS officers returned multiple shots, hitting Rapp, who fell a few yards east of the SUV.

Three other DPS officers rendered aid at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office report.

“Rapp allegedly died on scene but was resuscitated by paramedics and officers on scene,” the report stated.

The two DPS officers involved in the shooting were Sgt. Brad Elliott, who used his duty weapon; and Officer Nate Gould, who used an AR-15 rifle.

The two officers’ bullets hit Rapp at least five or six times, according to the sheriff’s office report. Rapp was hit in the legs and once in the abdomen.

Rapp was airlifted to Flagstaff Medical Center to undergo surgery, according to the report.

According to the report, DPS officials told the sheriff’s deputy Rapp would make a full recovery.

According to the Arizona Supreme Court Web site, Rapp has convictions for aggravated DUI. He spent a number of years in prison, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections Web site. He was released from custody in mid-March this year.

One officer from the DPS Flagstaff district suffered a minor hand injury during the incident, but DPS officials would not clarify which officer.

Rapp’s condition was listed as stable as of Monday afternoon at Flagstaff Medical Center.

Warriner said the suspect’s condition, which was listed as critical, had previously made interviews impossible, and that his identity would not be released by DPS until officers talk to him.

The investigations, both criminal and internal, will be conducted by DPS, according to the sheriff’s office report.

They revived him on scene, great, now we get to pay for this putz to stay in jail a little while longer. They need to start teaching the both feet chest compression method for saving guys like this

"Rapp would make a full recovery."

I could just hear him laughing and claiming being bullet proof. I pray I'm wrong and he changes his ways

What the hell... How do you go from dead...flat on your back in the street to "stable" over the weekend? They must have some amazing medical personnel out there. I hope by "full recovery" they don't mean back on the street and ready to steal cars in 2 months.

His backside should never again see the light of day!

Estimate how many shots he fired at highway patrolmen, then give him ten years for each shot fired. That will rehabilitate him. It takes some people longer than others, to learn.

Gotta love the consistency coming from these LE agencies... We've seen a few of these lately. Not that I'm concerned with the privacy of this lunatic, just found it funny

Glad I'm not a LEO or paramedic ... can you imagine being asked to revive a violent felon who was put down while committing a horrendous act? One might decide to comply, but effectively.

He was "ReHabilitated" then they had to go and "Resusitate" him. I want to install a express lane in our Florida "ReHabilitation" centers now that the Supremes have ruled that it is constitutional.
