GOOD: Homeowner Stops Home Invades And Hold One For Police - Galesburg, IL

Armed resident foils burglary - Galesburg, IL - The Register-Mail

    GALESBURG —

Knox County Sheriff’s Department deputies are investigating a residential burglary in which the homeowner apprehended a suspect after chasing him with a gun.

Police were called to a burglary in progress at 7:43 p.m. Monday to 1350 Knox Road 600E. According to police, the resident was in his basement when he heard a knock at the door. When he got to the main floor, he saw two unidentified men on the rear deck. The resident returned to the basement and retrieved a handgun.

The resident went upstairs and found the two men standing inside his home. The suspects fled and the resident followed, eventually firing a warning shot into the ground.

One of the suspects stopped while the second suspect continued running.

Tyrone L. Thompson, 20, Peoria, was detained by the homeowner until police arrived. Thompson was charged with residential burglary. The second suspect is described as a male with a small build and was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

Police found a kitchen window screen had been cut, allowing entry into the residence. The investigation is ongoing.
Now if only that homeowner were allowed to carry concealed in public this story would have a better ending.

Another example of why you need to carry even while you're at home in your safe, secure dwelling...scary how the homeowner handled the situation, in my state he would probably be facing charges for unlawful discharge of a firearm and would probably lose his CCW, if he had one.

This is just around the corner from where my aunt and uncle live, and very close to where my father grew up. Knoxville isn't but a couple dozen streets. There have been a few of these sorts of crimes, the past couple of years. Used to be a sleepy little burg, where everyone knew everybody. It's drawing the riff-raff, now. Sad.

Looks like Tyrone gets a 'vacation'...

I don't think that either chasing the BG (two of them actually), or firing a 'warning' shot was a great idea...

I am glad that things worked out well for the home owner.

    Stay armed...carry at home...stay safe!

He may get 2 to 5...probably less. Too bad he wasn't sent on a permanent vacation.

I'm carrying right now, sitting in my kitchen. I've gotten to the point that it seems like the prudent thing to do.
