GOOD: Homeowner Shoots Man In Apparent Self-Defense - St. Louis, MO

STLtoday - Homeowner kills man in apparent self defense

ST. LOUIS -- A Baden neighborhood homeowner shot and killed a man who struck him in the head with a pipe after the homeowner confronted the man early this morning, police said.

Police would only identify the dead man by his age: 43.

The homeowner, who also is not being identified by police, said that he heard a noise outside of his home in the 9000 block of Edna Avenue early this morning. When he went outside, he found the man, who the homeowner knew, police said.

The man then struck the homeowner in the head with a metal pipe and the homeowner ran back inside his house, police said. The man, still carrying the metal pipe, followed the homeowner into the house.

The homeowner then shot the man several times. The man ran out of the house and collapsed in the street in the 1000 block of Melvin Avenue, police said. The man died.

When police got to the man -- about 4:50 a.m. -- they found a metal bar lying next to his body, police said.

The homeowner was taken to a hospital where he was being treated for a head injury.

    Homicide detectives are still investigating.

The dead man's relatives had not been located or notified by 10:30 a.m., so police said they could not release his name.
The homeowner should have stayed inside and called 911. What if he went outside and came face to face with more than one perp. Or he went out the front door to investigate and someone came in the back to do harm to his family? Not a wise decision in my book.

Good that he was prepared, and good on the PD/media for not releasing his name.

I expected this to be a duplicate post, and then I find it's another assault in St. Louis.

Further justification for why I carry... in St. Louis.

We cannot hide in our homes and call 911 for every little thing that goes bump in the night. As it turns out, doing so might have worked better for the home owner, but that's by benefit of hindsight.

Very hazardous to be a burglar these days but yet they still do it . Homeowners are armed and not gonna take it anymore.

I'd rather investigate from an upstairs window, holding a rifle of course.
That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?

+1 only thing he did wrong was he had to run back inside for his gun

they would not ID the perp but the media published this shooter's address. I still don't understand why would they published such info. it only invites retaliation from the perp's cronies. in any case, good on the homeowner; it seems like a justifiable shoot.

Lead pipe to the head could have been all she wrote for the homeowner... lucky to be alive. Glad he was still able to take care of business!
