GOOD: Man Stops Blowtorch Wielding Tunneller - Tampa, FL

MyFox Tampa Bay | Tunnelling would-be burglar thwarted by homeowner

TAMPA - Police say they've arrested a man who tried to tunnel into his neighbor's home.

It was early Sunday, investigators say, when Mark Mazur snuck into a yard on San Luis and dug a tunnel under the fence.

But his clandestine plan was thwarted by the homeowner's dog. When he heard his dog barking, Robert Cash came outside -- armed with a handgun -- and ordered the intruder to stop.

Mazur, armed with a blowtorch, started towards Cash. Investigators say Cash fired once and missed Mazur, but the shot was enough to convince him to stop and wait for police to arrive.

Mazur, 56, has several prior arrests around the Bay Area. He was charged with burglary and assault.
Interesting way to try and break in to someone's home.

Was he too short to climb over the fence?

    He only had a handgun.

Maybe he was there to fix a leak in the copper pipe. Just trying to be a helpful neighbor ya know. LOL.

I think it would take days or weeks to dig a tunnel... and to start in plain sight? Why not kick the door in?

The idiot burgler probably thought his neighbors had a safe in which he would need a blow torch to get inside it. Thats the only thing I can think of unless he thought Home Depot sells steel plated floor tile
I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry.

    I'll bite.

Never bring a blowtorch to a gunfight.
