Gun held to baby's head during crime
LOCAL 6 REPORT • July 14, 2008
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- One of several armed men who robbed a Central Florida pizza restaurant held a gun to a baby's head and threatened to pull the trigger during the crime.
"To point a firearm at a child and an innocent child -- that's a sign of a coward," Orange County sheriff's Cmdr. Spike Hopkins said.
Police said three men burst into the family-owned Mr. Pizza restaurant located on Winegard Road in South Orange County near the Florida Mall and demanded money late Sunday. A fourth man apparently stood guard outside the business, police said.
As the crime happened, a woman tried to pull her baby out of a playpen at the front of the business, but one of the men pointed a gun at the baby and threatened to kill the child.
The bandits escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. The child was not injured.
There are no specific descriptions of the men, but detectives are checking surveillance tapes.
"Hopefully, somebody will call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS and help us out, especially if these are guys going around pointing guns at kids in order to facilitate the robbery," Hopkins said.
