Four People Shot in Two Shootings

Four people are in the hospital and and an elderly couple is shaken up after a string of violent crimes hits East Amarillo.
Police believe one man is responsible.
Just after 4:30 p.m., police were called out to a shooting at houses on South Spring.
    That's near 26th and Grand.
Two people were shot and they were both taken to the hospital.
About 15 minutes later another shooting was reported at Bagarry.
That's is between Grand and Eastern just north of I-40.
Two other people were shot and taken to the hospital.
At that point police had a similar description of the suspect from both location.
They were also looking for a white Camry.
We then fast forward about 30 minutes later. Police got a call of an attempted car jacking on Chicago near Grand and 3rd.
We're told the suspect dumped the Camry and came to this house.
A relative of the elderly couple living at the house says the man threatened the couple.
The 70-year old man living there went to get his pistol.
Meanwhile the 69-year old woman tricked the suspect and slammed the door shut.
We're told the suspect left the porch and took off on foot across a field.
That's when police cornered him out in those trailers.
Police don't have many more details about how and why this whole thing started.
Again at this police suspect the man they caught was linked to all three.
The last we heard one of the victims is in critical condition.
The other three are in stable.
The elderly couple is ok, they're just shaken up.

I found more "inside" info about this story this morning from officers....the 70 year old man told the dirtbag that his car keys were in the back room and he'd get them, but instead came back with a .357, dirtbag ran off, saw SWAT team van and ditched weapon, search of area caught him hiding under a truck

Moral of story=2 houses with no gun for protection-people were shot; 1 house with gun for protection-not shot

That is why I keep armed until bed time, and do not open the door unless armed. Better to be safe then sorry.

Probley not the best thing leaving the wheel gun in the bedroom, but it worked out and that man took care of business.

Hope the other victims make it OK.

    Just a quick side-note.

Statistically most self defense shootings happen in the home and the homeowner has to go retrieve the weapon, as is the case here.

I can't carry at work (nuke plants tend to frown on that), but I am armed the minute I walk through the door until placing it on the nightstand when I go to bed, for the very reason listed above.

A weapon doesn't do me much good if I have to retrieve it in a dynamic situation.

I don't think most people realise how fast somebody can kick in a door before you have time to retrieve a weapon, swat teams prove time and time again violent action causes people to freeze for just long enough to get in the house and control them, sometimes even people with guns right by them don't grab them but I'm figuring more along the lines they don't wanta shoot at a buncha heavily armed cops.I carry my EDC 24/7 and I have a fully loaded 12 gauge w/00 buck in the bedroom

    Update

I understand all the comments about not leaving the wheelie in the bedroom, etc; heck I have my G30 with me all the time in the house, BUT this guy was 70 years old, I give him kudos for having it period and having the mindset of telling the BG he was getting the keys.

STORY UPDATE: 4 shooting victims still in critical condition at the hospital, including the BG's wife that was shot in the head

BG was found hiding under a tractor-trailer and was tased to get him under control
