How many homicides is your town at?

    Year's 37th homicide bears resemblance to past case | clarionledger.com | The Clarion-Ledger

Let's look around our country and see how everyone is doing.
Jackson,MS(hinds county) is surrounded by 2 decent size counties.
Rankin county (which I live in)and Madison county which are the suburbs off Jackson.

With the Interstate crossing through the middle of the tri-county area you can be anywhere in 45 mins. as in from one side to the other or anywhere Downtown!!!
Make no mistake, I know Jackson is a very small capital (175,000 pop.) but look at these number!!!

City-data.com crime index (higher means more crime, U.S. average = 282.2)
    (2001)925.9 (2002)887.1 (2003)829.2 (2004)814.0 (2005)657.8 (2006)620.9 (2007) 752.5

These numbers were found a city-data.com

Pretty mellow around these parts, one homicide since 2003. 2006 and 2007 stats aren't up yet. City population in 2006: 4,832

    CDW,

City-Data is good and I've been referencing it for a decade toward my own multiple home purchases.
They source data from multiple sources and present it in their own standardized format. Their sources for crime are stated and include th the FBI Uniform Crime Reports.

For anyone moving to a new location I highly suggest this site as a valuable resource.
BTW I am not in any way associated with the site personally nor professionally.

In my town there hasn't been a murder since 2004 and has a crime index of 132.6 (2006).

We're hanging steady at zero homicides in our town. I like Maine.

My town/municipality had 167 murders (not an index - this is the actual number) last year (we are in a good year compared to 1991 when we had 337 murders). So far in the last month theres been about 3-4 murders that I've heard of (I actually heard the fusilade about two blocks from my house [@200mts]). Heres the actual data, wich is compiled by the State's University.

Don't forget to include the population numbers too... If NYC has 30 murders its no big deal, but if Dubuque IA has 30, its a crisis.

Edmond, OK (population around 70,000). Historically a small college town but has grown in the last 20 years like crazy. (Population in the 1950's was like 10-15,000).

Our raw data on murders since 1999:
    1999 : 1
    2000: 0
    2001: 1
    2002: 1
    2003: 0
    2004: 0
    2005: 1
    2006: 1

    (all according to city-data.com)

Our little town of 28,000 & growing has 0 for the year, 0 for 2007, 1 for 2006...I like quiet, small towns.

So far this year (July 26), there have been 83 homicides in peaceful Jacksonville, FL. According to today's newspaper the total homicides for the previous years were:

    2004 -- 121
    2005 -- 120
    2006 -- 130
    2007 -- 153

Now you can see why I carry everyday.

As of 2005, Pueblo had 8 homicides. This year I think we are at 12. Our city population is around 110k, about 130k country-wide. The area is filled with sheeple. I contrast this to the area I left over a year ago: Orlando, FL. There, the numbers are quite different. The webite provided shows (2005) population just over 210k with 22 homicides. 2006 and 2007 were very violent with (population over 400k city proper) just over 100 homicides each.
