bad-3 Children Wounded when Gunman Fires at Car - Dallas, TX

DALLAS -- Three children were critically injured early Wednesday when someone opened fire on a car outside a Dallas apartment complex.

The three siblings sitting in the back seat were struck at about 2 a.m. as the vehicle was pulling out of the Pleasant Village apartment complex in the 300 block of Jim Miller Road near Highway 175, police said.

They said a 12-year-old girl was shot in arm, a 10-year-old boy was shot in the back and arm, and that a 4-year-old girl was shot in leg.

Two other children and two other adults in the car, including the children's mother, were not injured.

Relatives transported the children to a hospital.

Sr. Cpl. Gerardo Monreal said the children were in critical but stable condition at Children's Medical Center.

Police were interviewing several potential suspects and talking with several witnesses.

It was not clear why the shooting happened or what kind of gun was used.

Police are also exploring the possibility that the incident is connected to another shooting that happened late Tuesday night at nearby apartment complex in which an elderly woman was struck in the face by shotgun pellets. She suffered only minor injuries.

Why are a 4, 10, 12 yr. old, as well as two other children, out of bed in a car at 2AM?!

    - Janq's kids are in bed and asleep as a rule no later than 7:30P

    Another article

Another article mentioned a second car with at least one relative in it that was following the car that got shot up.

I'd have to speculate without data, but one possibility is that someone knew trouble was coming and tried to avoid it.

There's only a million or so other plausible reasons. We have to wait to see.

I agree the circumstances are certainly interesting. I will add my own speculation: It's vacation season and they wanted to be at the theme park/attraction when it opens.

I too wonder why they were out, but then again my family used to leave at like 2 in the mornin when we drove on vacation. 7 people in a Mercedes musta been kinda tight inside.

    Hope the kids recover ok.

Maybe a responsible parent was picking them up from the babysitters after a night on the town?
