GOOD: Workers Stop Armed Robbery At Family Business - Houston, TX

Suspect killed after victim takes gun in Houston robbery | Chronicle | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

Gunfire broke out during a holdup at a family-owned roofing company early Sunday, leaving one attempted robber dead and the business owner seriously wounded, Houston police said.

Detectives said Sergio Rodriguez, his brother and a co-worker were preparing to open about 6:50 a.m. when three or four armed men forced their way inside the building in the 10500 block of Foy.

"Somewhere in the middle of the (robbery), Mr. Rodriguez was shot," said Houston Police Department homicide investigator Fil Waters.

One of the roofers managed to grab a gun and began shooting, fatally striking one of the intruders and wounding another. Rodriguez also was struck during the gunfire exchange, police said.

"My understanding is that he's in surgery and will recover," Waters said.

Sergio Rodriguez Jr. stood outside the crime-scene tape later Sunday as police continued their investigation.

"To me, he's the man of steel," Rodriguez said of his wounded father. "He works every day, trying to take care of the family. Without him, I don't know what to do."

Police recovered a vehicle at a nearby supermarket that may have been involved in the robbery.

"It has bullet holes in the windshield. Evidence inside the vehicle would indicate that someone was probably hit," Waters said, declining to elaborate.

Police plan to question a third man who later showed up at an area hospital with at least three gunshot wounds.
Wow, glad to hear that the business owner should survive, and that two less scumbags are on the streets. Hopefully the surviving BG's get charged with felony murder.

Idioicy isn't always a bad thing, you can train an idiot.......it's stupid that we can't do anything about. Those O2 wasters were stupid, and the stupid shall be punished.....eventually......one way or another.

Prayers for a full and speedy recovery for Mr. Rodriguez, and Bravo Zulu for his 'boy' taking care of business!

Why would you target a roofing company for a holdup?

The sheriff needs to be invited up to Minnesota. I think his services are sorely needed in metro suburb of Chaska.

It isn't clear whether the roofer who returned fire grabbed one of the BG's guns, grabbed one that was kept in the business or drew his own holstered firearm. Anyway, here's hoping for a complete recovery for Senor Rodriguez and an arrest of the one BG that got away.

I hope someone will post a follow-up story.

Smile Skip on messin with roofers!

Don't mess with hard working roofers! Obviously this was a premeditated venture to some extent. Usually robbers don't get up at the crack of dawn and over breakfast get together and say "let's rob some roofers." Still idiots though.
goldshellback, great quote to show how the Brady bunch tries to put a possible negative appearance on CCP holders as if they should be thought of as equally as dangerous as all the felons and robbers. It is funny how a comparison is often left out as to the # of crimes committed by CCP holders and and the rest of society who obtain guns illegally, carry illegally and commit murders and robberies. The comparison would be pretty laughable I believe.

    Thanks again.

Glad to hear that the BG's got some lead pills for their effort, maybe the roofers need to invest in a bigger roofing hammer, like say a .45 model. Hope the father recovers soon.
The first time you aren't armed and prepared may be the last time you wished you were.
