WRCB Channel 3 Chattanooga News, Weather | Student Killed in Knoxville School Shooting

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Knoxville Police said the victim of Thursday morning's shooting has died.

They also said the shooting was not random; instead, they do believe the victim was targeted specifically by the suspect.

Police say they've taken a suspect into custody after the shooting at Central High School was reported to police at about 8:10 Thursday morning.

Police spokesman Darryl DeBusk says police took a suspect into custody six minutes later near the school and recovered the gun.

A 16-year-old student was wounded and taken to a local hospital.

The school was placed on lockdown after the shooting. School officials were preparing to release students one classroom at a time, then bus them to a church so they could be picked up by their parents.

In this instance I don't think a teacher having a CCW permit would have helped. My sympathies to the families.

Very sad. My prayers for the families. This is more fodder for the anti's and it's unlikely they'll recognize that it's still illegal for a minor to have a handgun without supervision.

This is so very 'not good'!

Prayers to both families. No, an armed staff probley wouldn't have stopped this from occuring and most certinly this'll become fodder of the 'anti bunch'.

Very intrested in HOW this student got his hands on a gun.

    Very sad.

Based on my reading of the "In God We Trust" thread I hope people don't freak out that the school is bussing the kids to a church for release.

I don't think they will, most people will turn to religion after a tragic incident. After all what could be a safer place than a church...

Oh wait, nevermind. I forgot they are just as dangerous now a days !

We are actually the evac site for a couple of schools.
Just being good neighbors. I doubt MOST people would have any problem.

I am convinced SOMEBODY will have a problem with it just knowing human nature and how some people live to find fault.

Somebody forgot to tell the little that guns weren't allowed at school......
