Hey, let's not forget one very important thing here:
Suicide is Homicide turned inward.
It's very easy to go from being suicidal to being homicidal. Also, it sounds like this person wanted some "help" in ending her life and that's why she pointed her weapon at the Officer. She got what she wanted, "Suicide by Cop" when her initail attempt failed.
I will not put my safety in jeopardy because of a suicidal person. I will ensure that maintain my safety as I COME FIRST! After me comes my co-workers, then society as a whole and lastly the person who instigated this whole thing.
I use this sort of "table" for lack of a better word, because if the people sent to help/solve the situation have to call for help after intervening it will delay getting help to the person that needs it.

This isn't like someone that is standing on the edge of a building or bridge and you have time to talk to them. It is going down right now with possible deadly consequences of the officers, not just the suicidal lady.
If there were cover or some other factors involved maybe, maybe things could have gone down differently, but when they are standing in the open and the gun is pointed at them, there really isn't any other choice.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

We just finished critical incident training in the academy, so I know exactly what they were trying to do and how they reacted to the attempted use of deadly force against them.
I hope the officers are getting help dealing with this.

If loose gun laws are good for criminals why do criminals support gun control?
