i'm worried that he might be charged with something. some would say he should have called 911 when he saw his door busted in, and not enter the house. i don't know if a 'castle doctrine' (if NC has one) would apply in this case. i'm sure if the DA is a hardcase, he could find something to charge him with.

either way, i probably would have done the same. good on him.

Glad it turned out the way it did, BUT...

As soon as he saw the door kicked in he , IMHO, should have backed off , called 911 and become the best witness he could. I know, I know, it dosen't set well with me either but that is the truth. Again, just my .02.

    Why?
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Hmm, call the law so that after BG gets out, he'll know where to get revenge, or tell his friends to exact revenge while in the clink, or walk into my own home... tough choice.

I'm not a murderous person, but I'd think that even IF the BG had complied, he'd think twice about coming back after seeing the bidness end of my EDC (which is .45, and might be percieved to be .85 under stress).

Anyone here ever had to pull the trigger on someone in self defense?

If as most of us do, he had a family that was not with him it was his responsibility to determine if they were in harms way. If while doing so he encountered a beligerant BG that refused to comply and tried to exit thru the GG he did exactly what was necessary. IMHO

    Good job.

If his family was in the house, then yes, of course you do what you have to to protect them. I didn't see anything about family in the OP. If it's just you and you see the door kicked in, then I suggest backing off because clearing a house is a very complex and dangerous thing to do. I"m sure other LEO's and former LEO's will agree. I practiced that trade for 20 years and learned that it takes constant training to be even somewhat proficient at it. On top of that if you are alone you are going in behind the 8-ball to start with. Again, just my .02 cents worth gathered from 20 years of training and teaching others, I can't and won't try to live others lives for them

Maybe the OP had other guns in the house and was wooried about BG finding them. Good shot . One of the hazzards of being a BG.

Man the BG was a fool, he should have just hit the deck. As already stated the gene pool is clean.

Even though the good guy won this time... West Charlotte is infested with crack heads and gang bangers. I would have a for-sale sign in the front yard the next day. It's ashame too I remember visiting my aunts house on Toddville road 30 to 40 years ago and It was a nice neighborhood back then.
