Large, aggressive dogs that terrorize anything around here whether it be people, pets, cattle or horses, generally dont last through the day in this area.
I would rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.

Remember we are getting this story from the media, who will sensationalize it and may try to make it seem more vigilante-like, especially if they are the typical liberal anti-gun types. They could have reported this in a positive light for CHL'ers.

The authorities must have gotten the unbiased story, hence no charges. No word if this was even inside the city limits.

    Good outcome..

And discharging a weapon under any circumstances but self defense would likely get you one charge if not several. It's quite possible he was deputized on the spot once law enforcement showed up, and in my book, very lucky to be free of charges against him. Remember--I'm looking at things objectively here even though the outcome could be considered good in this instance.
If your child was about to be mauled would you still feel the same? I hope not. Bully for the guy that took some appropriate action!

There are no bad guns or dogs, just bad gun owners and dog owners
And yet a dog can/will hunt down a person and attack them on its own volition, but a gun won't.
Considering yourself to be defenseless is the first administrative step to becoming a victim.

That noone was hurt is good. The dog owner needs a "little talkin to" about how to keep control of his dogs.

Wrong. The dog owner needs to spend about ten days in the slammer and be told by the court that his dog owning days are over for about ten years.
