Why would you keep a gun for self defense and it not be loaded?

Might as well just have a baseball bat, would be cheaper too.

The woman said she found a strange man sleeping in her son's bed. She woke her husband and left to call police from a neighbor's house. The husband confronted the man with a hunk of metal and held him until police arrived.
    Fixed it a little.....

...in this case, an unloaded gun could have got someone killed.
The first time you aren't armed and prepared may be the last time you wished you were.

I hope this homeowner knows just how lucky he is to have had an idiot burglar visit his home.
Could have been a whole lot worse.

    Stay armed...keep it loaded...stay safe!

If it happened in DC it wouldn't surprise me, I expect better from somebody from Montana.
Before I even reached the end I was thinking if that happened to me they would wake up looking down the business end of my 870....but I promise it would be loaded.

Why was it even important to tell the story including the empty shotgun? Was that the homeowner apologizing for holding a gun on a home invader or the media trying to make him look stupid?
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...

i think the homeowner wanted to show the news people how really clever he was at fooling an idiot.

Unfortunately, because using an unloaded gun worked for the home owner the first time, it will probably only serve to reinforce his ignorance!

Don't give the homeowner a hard time, he is obviously a newly transplanted Brit and is not used to the fact that guns can actually hold bullets.

An unloaded shotgun works pretty well on a sleeping burglar, but if he had awakened and gone all Charles Manson on the homeowner, the article's headline would have been much different.

A simple matter of personal injury liability coverage.

The homeowner is probably afraid that if he shot a burglar in his home, he may not have enough insurance in the event the burglar sued him. If he keeps his guns unloaded he won't have to worry about it.

Hopefully, he has enough life insurance to cover his funeral after a burglar splits his head open with the empty shotgun.
