Downtown Panhandler Shot Man, Left On Bus
Watch out who you give money to:
Downtown Panhandler Shot Man, Left On Bus - Sacramento News Story - KCRA Sacramento
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A bus stop panhandler shot a man who turned down her request for money, Sacramento police said.
The shooting took place at 3:45 p.m. Monday at 6th and J streets.
The woman was later identified as Audrey Jackson, 47.
Several people turned Jackson down, police said, and she shot the last man who did so.
There was some sort of conversation between the man and Jackson, Sgt. Matt Young said.
A witness told KCRA 3 that the man first told Jackson "no," and then said, "get a job."
The 54-year-old victim was shot once in the stomach and taken to the UC Davis Medical Center for surgery.
Jackson tried to fire the gun twice but was unsuccessful, police said.
She aimed the second time at the man's head and pulled the trigger but the gun malfunctioned, a witness told KCRA 3.
Jackson then got onto a bus a few blocks away and left the area, Regional Transit officials said.
She was detained before 5 p.m. and taken into custody after being questioned in a Target store parking lot at Broadway and Riverside Boulevard. Police said she had a gun in her purse.
Some users of the city's public transit said they are thinking about changing their routine.
"It's actually kind of worrisome to me because every day you see someone out here asking for money," said light rail user Derik Jones.
Jackson was taken to the Sacramento County Jail.

If this is a new trend then it is a whole new game on panhandlers.

a lot of pan handlers don't really have anything to lose, I can see how after a while they might lose their motivation to do whats right and just act on emotions if someone insults them.
she will likely end up in jail getting fed 3 times a day and getting to watch cable tv.

Agreed, panhandlers are not the same as Wimpy from Popeye or Ned the wino and Otis the town drunk from TV Land.
They are in real life mentally ill and/or unstable persons who as well may be mentally impaired by drugs and/or alcohol.
Act and react accordingly.

When I am driving if I see a pan-handler, I have my Glock or Mace close by.

I tell'm I'll buy'm food but won't give'm any cash. That usually results in their losing interest and moving on. They want money to buy drugs or alcohol.

I like your approach - hope it's not copyrighted. I intend to adopt it as my own.

Just hit them up first. It throws them completely off guard. When I see one coming, I beat them to the punch and ask..."Hey bud, can you spare a buck?" I even had one give me one once.

Maybe should ask if they have any extra .45acp on them.

Most of our panhandlers in this area have the downtown areas and shopping malls staked out into specific territories so they don't encroach on each others "income". They dress like homeless people, act like homeless people, talk like homeless people, but if you observe and follow them after their "shift" is over...you may find that they are driving a better vehicle than you, and live in a quite comfortable home, sad but true. I feel sorry for the ones who are actually are homeless and have been dealt a bad hand through no fault of their own.
The first time you aren't armed and prepared may be the last time you wished you were.
