Pizza man assaulted
A 26-year-old driver for Papa John's was assaulted while trying to deliver a pizza to an address in the 1300 block of Maple Street on Monday night, according to a Goldsboro police report. He was approached by one white male and one black male, aged between 18 and 21 years old, and the driver gave the pizzas to the subjects. The two men threw the pizzas to the ground and began assaulting the driver, causing no notable injury to him, before the driver threatened the two with a gun and they ran off, he reported.

I have already written to the editor about claiming the driver threatened the assailants with a gun when instead he was defending his life.

This story somehow looks incomplete. He was assaulted but not injured? Threaten them with a gun and they took his word for it or did he show it? I don't know but something smells a little fishy here.

This story should have had a different ending involving the chalk outline of two bodies....now these dirtbags live on to rob or assault someone else...

I'm confused with the article...he gives them the pizza then they attempt to beat him up?? And I thought Papa John's had good pizza...

I'm confused too. The worst pizza I ever had was wonderful.
An armed populace are called citizens.
An unarmed populace are called subjects.

Geeze, it that all it takes to get a FREE Papa John's pizza?? Just approach the driver?
That Editor needs to clarify something.
It’s so much easier now days, to "Love and honor" my wife, when she is armed, and shoots a better group than I do. (Till death do us part, eh?)

Response from editor
I emailed the following to the editor.
After reading the article “Pizza man assaulted” I take offense of the phraseology that the driver “threatened”
the two assailants with a gun. Had he not used a firearm to DEFEND himself the story may have been “Pizza Driver Killed” instead.
His response.
Thanks, I will let the editors know.
But, as a gun owner (and not speaking for the newspaper) you have to be a credible threat (like our military) or criminals won't take you
seriously. If he had "defended" himself, I would take that as *using*
the firearm and the criminals would be dead. So I'm not sure how I
would have re-wrote that phrase ... he wasn't just carrying a firearm,
he didn't just "present" a firearm, etc.
Thanks,
It sounds like he considers the military to be a threat instead of criminals.

I get his point though. The word "threatened" could certainly be used and without implying something wrongful. I guess its a matter of how you take it. His point is that it doesn't necessarily imply wrong doing or improper use of a weapon.
