Bad - Upset Gunman Shot by Police
LAKE PARK — A man wielding a semiautomatic assault rifle went on a rampage at a tow yard Wednesday morning, wounding two employees and firing at a sheriff's deputy before the deputy shot him down in a brief gunfight, authorities said.
Edward F. Voltz Jr., 51, of suburban West Palm Beach twice drove to Lake Park Towing, at 803 13th St., to confront employees Wednesday, a Palm Beach County sheriff's spokesman said.
On his second visit, just after 9 a.m., Voltz told the owner that he needed to retrieve his daughter's medicine from her car, which had been towed to the yard after a crash Tuesday night. Voltz said that without the medicine, his daughter would die in three hours, said Lisa Hedrick, a dispatcher for the tow company.
Skeptical employees told him to come back with a driver license.
"We thought he was going back out for proof of ownership," Hedrick said. "Instead, he came back and started shooting."

This report just begs more information.
1) If true, how can you have life saving medicine only in the car, without medicine available elsewhere. Seems to me, that if you have a life-threatening illness, you would always carry the medication on your person, like nitroglycerine, or asthma inhalers, etc.
2) Maybe he had drugs or other contraband in the car and wanted to retrieve it before a search was conducted.
Will wait to get updated reports on this one, but in any event, he probably got what was coming to him for doing a stupid thing like that.

Agreed Jon. It makes zero sense at all and people with dire need meds keep such meds on their person and in multiple locations (home, car, purse/briefcase, work/desk, etc.).
Further a person in need of such meds would have an ongoing prescription at their local pharmacy and by that it would be max an hour wait to get a new prescription filled, with ease.
Further in an emergency a simple trip to the hospital for same meds and care is what normal average thinking people do.
This guy was mental and criminal acting if not criminal minded too.
Oh, and I guess his daughter died as well being as he didn't come home.

Dead guys story sounds fishy. Deputy defended self and didn't get hit so he is lucky. Glad all the good guys survived.
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...

So since he wanted to gets meds out of the car would this be classified as a "drug related" shooting?

Should have just went to the drug store, explained the situation, and got another prescription. If that didn't work, call her physician and get another order for the "life saving" medication.

I don't think this had anything to do with (DAUGHTERS MEDS) sounds like he was trying to use an excuse to get in the car

Daughter was driving with her meds in the glove box when it got impounded? Two and half hours later dad finds out and freaks? Not saying he did anything short of being a complete moron that needed being shot down. Saying I can see how his story is not untrue still goldshellback said it best

Another 'nut job' looking for a place to cause trouble. Shooting people over medicine in a glove box? I wonder what was really in the glovebox?
Good thinking on the part of the deputy...glad this disturbed individual didn't get a chance to open up on any other groups of people.
