Parents stab-proof their children - WalesOnline

"WELSH parents are among those buying stab-proof clothing to protect their children against knife crime and bullying, the Western Mail has learned.
According to manufacturers, parents mainly from the Swansea and Newport areas are among the hundreds buying hoodies, jackets and tops lined with a stab-proof material.
The fabric, called Kevlar, is used by the police and military to make bulletproof and stab-proof clothes and is said to be five times stronger than steel.
But retailer BladeRunner says parents now believe it could protect their children against the effects of violent crime.
Welsh children are already known to take knives and guns into schools. In a survey published by G4S Security Services last October, 15% of children said they had seen another pupil carrying an offensive weapon on school premises.
In addition, more than 10% of pupils in Wales aged seven to 16 said they had witnessed someone their own age attacked with an offensive weapon – one of the highest rates in the UK and second only to London and South-West England."

Folks commonly remark about America being a bastion of violence and wanton disregard for human life.
Fact is we are not even in the top 10 for as much as based on _per capita_. of course we have huge total numbers of as much considering we're a huge country with a land mass larger than most any other nation. But comparing apples to apples per capita England amongst others are much more violent as a people as based on criminal victimization figures than we are...even as we have our 'guns'.
