Bad: Oregon Man Shot by Dog During Hunting Trip

Of course details are sparse, but how did the gun "accidentally" go off? Wasn't the safety on? Why was there a round in the chamber? Was it in someone's possession or just lying in the boat? Lots of questions.

PORTLAND, Ore. Henry Marcum has nothing but kind words for the dog that shot his 23-year-old son this weekend.

Marcum says his son, Matthew, was standing in Tillamook Bay at the start of duck-hunting trip when his dog jumped into the boat, setting off a 12-gauge shotgun.

The blast blew a hole in the aluminum boat before hitting Marcum, who is recovering from injuries to his legs and buttocks at Portland's Legacy Emanuel Hospital.

Henry Marcum says he's not angry with the dog, and neither is his son.

The elder Marcum says the Labrador named Drake is a good dog and the shooting is "just one of those things."
I wonder if the dog had a permit.

The dog-ate-my-homework defense? Sounds fishy. Very fishy.

Sounds to me like his pooch has some issues to work through. Probley tired of Matthew missing so many ducks.

This sort of thing happens about every year, and a couple of times in a year on occasion.

This is much more common than one thinks.

Marcum says his son, Matthew, was standing in Tillamook Bay at the start of duck-hunting trip when his dog jumped into the boat, setting off a 12-gauge shotgun.
I can almost visualize this, they splashed the boat at the landing and the dog jumped in. Why was there a loaded gun in the boat at the boat landing? Never load your gun until you get to your hunting spot.

I always teach hunters that you do not load your firearm until you reach your hunting spot. Most game laws have a "motorized" provision that you cannot have a loaded firearm in a boat if it is under power. This was carelessness on the part of the hunter, nothing to do with the dog.

RULE "Always be sure your muzzle is pointed in a safe direction"
