As reported by the Pittsburgh Channel:

Mall Santa Robbed At Knifepoint In Butler County
Bank Bags With $700 Stolen Outside Clearview Mall

    POSTED: 3:30 pm EST November 30, 2008
    UPDATED: 5:39 pm EST December 1, 2008

CENTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A man who plays Santa Claus and operates a holiday toy train ride at Clearview Mall in Center Township, Butler County, was attacked while leaving the building Saturday night, state police said.

Matt MacDonald, 23, of Butler, told police he was held at knifepoint shortly after 10 p.m. by a man who stole two bank deposit bags containing $700 cash from that day's train rides.

"I didn't see where he came from," MacDonald said. "He was on my right and he demanded the money. He already grabbed onto the money while I was holding it."

State police said the assailant was described as white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and a black scarf.

"I fought with him for a few seconds to keep him from getting the money, but that's when I realized he had the knife, so I let it go and I said, 'OK, just don't hurt me,'" MacDonald said.

If you have information regarding this investigation, state police ask you to contact them by calling 724-284-8100.

Maybe if he paid his elves better they wouldn't be out robbing people!

Criminals have no respect of anyone or anything. If they perceive someone as an easy target they will strike. Keep your eyes open, your ears tuned to your surroundings and your gun handy. Especially at this time of year.

Not that I am going to blame the victim, but hopefully he has now decided he will no longer be a sheep. Or... more likely, he will continue to do things exactly the way he did and get robbed again by the same guy.

    Bad all around

I was visiting my parents over thanksgiving and was in that mall earlier that day. Unfortunantly alot of folks(especially my parents) think you don't "need" a gun as the town is on the smaller side.

To add a cherry to the top of this story a perp mathcing the same description and MO knocked out the CiCi's pizza manager with the bank drops the next night in the moraine point plaza for another 1000 or so dollars.

I've always had a suspicion that he kept a sawed off 12 gauge under the seat in the sleigh.

What he needs is a "Prancer Panzer" tank in red.

In this carrying an arm was not necessary.
Simply all he had to do was use much better and more sensible practices toward transport of his valuables (money).

The newspaper headline would have been a hoot if the perp was dressed up in a Grinch costume.

Santa should have been carrying in his Santa Suit and used the money to pad his tummy. I'll bet the guy was wathcing him as he closed down for the day.

Regardless; carrying a pistol or not, you have to practice “concealed transport” when carrying a bank bag.

    Glad Santa was not hurt.
