GOOD: Man Stops Truck Thief - Cedar Hills, TX

Burglar shot dead in Cedar Hill driveway | Latest News | WFAA.com

CEDAR HILL Police said a Cedar Hill resident shot and killed a person attempting to break into a vehicle in his driveway Friday morning.

The gunfire erupted at 7:30 a.m. in the 9100 block of Sleepy Hollow, one of the city's nicest, most established neighborhoods.

Police said the homeowner heard an alarm going off on his pickup truck. He grabbed a gun, went outside, and opened fire when he saw the alleged burglar attempting to remove a stereo system.

The suspect died at the scene.

"This is extremely rare," said Cedar Hill spokesman Corky Brown. "This is a really quiet neighborhood like most of ours in Cedar Hill. It's very shocking to the neighbors to have something like this occur."

The names of the homeowner and the suspect have not been released.

The homeowner has not been arrested or charged at this point.
Good on the homeowner, and good that Texas allows the use of deadly force to protect property.
"The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground."

one of the city's nicest, most established neighborhoods.
I've got a coworker who refuses to consider arming himself at home, or taking other methods to protect his family, because he's "never heard of any home break-ins around his area." He lives in a "nice neighborhood".

Nice neighborhoods have more good stuff to steal.

I hope the homeowner is not the recipient of any repercussions from BG's family or friends.

Those little street thugs rarely work alone. His partner probably bolted when the alarm went off and the one killed was the stupid one. Darwinism at its best!

And also, they make great targets exactly because of the mindset you describe - no one is expecting it and is completely off-guard. The best type of victim.

    Good on the homeowner.

I was just telling my wife this morning, "I hardly ever see LEO's patrolling our area, either that is good, as our neighborhood is safe, or it is bad - the BG's will be coming soon."

Yep, nice neighborhoods/safe neighborhoods either way - full of unsuspecting sheep - not me. House alarm, and fully armed.

TX law about protecting property is the way it should be everywhere.
