why would anyone be allowed to bring loaded ammo to a place where there is no firing range?

Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shop both allow conceal carry in their stores. Not much sense in carrying a unloaded gun. Now in a classroom sitting, that is different. Guns should be unloaded at all times and kept holstered unless instructor tells you to unholster it for training purposes.

We do our classes at Bass Pro and despite having NO LIVE AMMO printed in the student's paperwork, I always ask before I start a class if anyone has any live ammo with them.

So far I have only had one student with live ammo, and that was last month. I immediately told him that he needed to take it out to his vehicle. He missed about 15 minutes of class time before he made it back from the other side of the parking lot.

Just a thought, here...I'm certain there there are several good places in Fredericksburg to take training, but one just a stone's throw from that Gandermountain is the Commonwealth Criminal Justice Academy, run by DCJS Instructor. Tom teaches to high standards, and speaking from experience, the level of instruction you'd find at the CCJA would included many things a Gander facility could not offer. Life fire being one of those things...

    Why not look them up?

I attended a Utah CCW course back when Shooters Paradise was still open.

The instructor stated that no loaded weapons were permitted in the classroom. The discussion moved on and a student had a question about his gun. The instructor asked if it was unloaded. The student said "No" and continued to eject a live round from his gun.

At least the doofus didn't try to pull the trigger, though he would have screwed that up too.
