This is a great story. Not sure why they don't have the breed of the dog listed.

Makes me wonder if I could get my pistol drawn in time to protect the family. He kicks in door and comes in shooting....

The dog didn't die, it is recovering from it's 3 wounds.

Just looking at the dog it is probably part pit bull, the rest is probably just run of the mill mutt. Either way, that dog deserves nothing but the best from now on.

Another example of why we should try to make all shelters in the country "No Kill" shelters.

The number of unwanted dogs and cats "murdered"(I refuse to use the more gentle term like "put to sleep") in shelters each year in this country alone is in the millions. Very sad. Most of those dogs and cats deserve better from us humans.

    Agreed PGrass.
He's officially retired in my book and should be shown his golden doggie bowl.

What a great dog, and fortunate family!

Sadly, my little feller would eek out a bark or two and probably run away

Its interesting to see what an animal that loves it family will do for them. Death is not even considered, the dog does what it feels it has to do. It is duty in the purest sense.

That is such a sad yet inspiring story. I love dogs, for obvious reasons. Oh and that is the perfect example of pitbulls in the news. I am not able to see pics but if what one previous poster said is correct, it shows the perfect example that the media only wants to shed a negative light on the pitbull and bully breeds. It makes me sick.

No home should be without a security screen door. The BG may get thru both doors but in the process he'll make enough noise to alarm the occupants and it'll take enough time to allow somebody to get a gun. Proper locks can go a long way to providing security to a home's occupants.
