No CCW make you a target in public parks

This was in our local paper today. Starkville Daily News - Six teens arrested in Sportsplex assault
Unfortunately in Miss. we cannot carry in any public park, which is where this occurred. If he had of been armed it might have prevented getting his head bashed, but then again it was 6 of them against this one guy. How would you have handled it?

The victim probably had an idea something was wrong if he stopped and looked at them twice. Having his guard up may have stopped the planned robbery, since they ran off when he could not be quickly subdued.
Having situational awareness is more important than having a gun. Also less than lethal options are good to have available, since shooting teens usually doesn't look too good in court.

You can't go around with your Ipod in your ears and yapping on your cell phone not having a clue to your surroundings.

You have to pay attention at all times. You don't have to be hyper-alert but you do have to be aware of your surroundings.

As a hypothetical situation, the only thing to do when attacked is to fight back. It appears from the story that no ultimatum was given, they just attacked. That means you come up fighting as violently and viciously as you can, this is especially true when outnumbered. Whatever you are allowed to carry comes out at that point, CS, pepper spray, blade, whatever you have. One of the most dangerous parts of being attacked by a group is the group mentality. Groups have a tendancy to continue attacking after the victim is subdued/on the ground. This is where the real life-threatening damage occurs.
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...

6 against one are odds that suck no matter what you are armed with. As bigiceman said, come up fighting and fight as violently as you can. If possible ignore the body and head , go for the throat, crotch and knee cap area. A good hit or kick to any of those areas will stop the person at least temporarily. If they see 1 or 2 of their "homeboys" go down, they might take the hint and haul their sorry butts out of there.
