Dog Walker Kills Armed Teen Robber, Police Say
Ryan Scott Patterson, 17, is charged with aggravated robbery. SideBar
A man walking his dog in Terrell on Wednesday fatally shot an armed 17-year-old robber, police said.
The incident happened at about 10:20 p.m. in Ben Gill Park in the 100 block of Lions Club Lane where, police said, a group of teen robbers surrounded the man.
According to investigators, Markee Lamar Johnson pulled out a gun and the 47-year-old man, a licensed concealed handgun owner, fired shots.
The 17-year-old Terrell High School student was struck in the head and died at Parkland Hospital. His weapon was recovered at the scene and later determined to be stolen during a separate offense in Terrell, according to police.
Police said they would not likely file charges against the man.
"I think in this particular situation, it would be a clear example of someone exercising their rights to protect themselves under the law," Capt. A.D. Sanson said.
Three other teen suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that was recovered in the 300 block of S. Park Street, police said.
Police identified the the other suspects and arrested one of them. Ryan Scott Patterson, 17, is charged with aggravated robbery.
The robbery victim, who did not want to be identified, was not injured.

Shot in Terrell and shipped to Parkland, dang that seems far away.
Good for the "victim" on deciding to not be one!

Good for the intended victim. I also like that the paper didn't disclose the name, address, phone number, social security number, place of work, favorite football team, and preferred sleeping position. I'm partial to on my side, arm under head

Police said they would not likely file charges against the man.
Why would there be any question to it at all?
Group of thugs, one pulls a gun. Looks like all the justification was there. Disparity of force, opportunity as well as intent. Hope the state has the statutes on the books to allow for prosecution of felony murder charges against the others.

Good for the dog walker. One less repeat offender.
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...

Head shot, on the BG with the gun. Nice, it's why we have range time!

Would like to have seen the look on the other three's faces when that all went down. They weren't as bad as they obviously thought a gun made them now were they.

That makes me so angry when they say things like that. It's very simple........... dirtbags pulled gun on law abiding citizen.........law abiding citizen defended himself. At 17 years old you are well aware of what wrong and whats right, so I dont feel sorry for him one bit.

What ticks me off is what the captain said "Police said they would not likely file charges against the man."
What do you mean not likely , there should be no question of just letting him go with no further action.

I agree that the police captain should not have volunteered the statement. Not so bad if he replied to a stupid reporter asking "are you charging the home owner with any crimes?"

Now days you never know when or where in your nice quiet neighborhood this is going to happen. This just re-enforces the necessity of always being armed and at condition yellow, ready to go directly to red. Good for the victim, it appears he takes the responsibility of carrying concealed seriously by being aware of his surroundings, practicing with his weapon, having a plan, and having the mind set to implement the plan immediately if necessary.
The first time you aren't armed and prepared may be the last time you wished you were.

They did say it was the propper use of force. I understand what you are stating, but I can understand why the captain said what he did.
