An observation about this sub forum
It sure seems to me (and this is very unscientific) that unarmed victims get shot a lot, but armed victims usually shoot their attackers, and most often fare much better than the unarmed (shot) victims, either unharmed or occasionally taking a bullet in trade. Granted the stories posted may not be a representation of the whole, but I'll continue to place my bets with the armed citizen.

There is a thread on this forum with a link to some research done it showed that 40% of the time if you do not resist a robbery you will be seriously injured if you resist using a gun you have a 3% chance of being seriously injured. and a serious injury includes a death

Give me a gun and resistance over nothing and compliance any old day.

People wrongly assume if they cooperate they will not be harmed.... well in some cases this may be true but it is just as likely that robbery is not the sole motive. Very often gangs use robberies to mask a murder or assault..... and in many cases the robber will shoot or beat you so you cannot later testify......
Point is that you CANNOT trust criminals to follow some book of ethics.

I'll take my odds with me and my 2 buddies, Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson.
I think any time you know or have as much or more as your opponent you will fare much better, as long as you can use what you have. We have all heard stories of someone who pulled their gun but just couldn't "do it" and in that case it might actually enrage a BG to do more than he originally planned.

Well, in the interest of scientific analysis, we may only see one side of these types of outcomes--in other words, those armed citizens who got shot/killed are probably not going to post here.
Just a thought.

I may be misquoting a bit but the idea is valid.

That can't be right! We all know the press and anti's tell us the only way to stay safe is not to fight back, and they would never, ever EVER, lead us astray!
For some reason I prefer my gun over begging for my life!

Years ago Don Kates wrote on this topic (and much more) -- see the link
GUNS, MURDERS, AND THE CONSTITUTION
and look for the section
"Incidence of injury to gun-armed resisters"
In that part he discusses the data presented by Handgun Control, Inc. and turns it around on them. Pretty funny in lots of ways! They (HCI) try to argue that resistance to criminal attack will get you hurt or killed. What they don't say (of course!) is "except if you resist with a gun".
Read that whole article if you like something of the history of gun-control in this country since the 1960's.
Anti-gunners seem to believe that if we just pass enough laws, we can have utopia. Unfortunately, utopia is NOT one of our choices.

But seriously, todays criminal will usually not just let you go unharmed.
