GOOD: Man Defends His Family With A Gun - Orange City, FL

    West Volusia News - newsjournalonline.com

Two masked, armed men broke into an Orange City house but fled empty-handed after the homeowner went after them with his own handgun, officials said Friday.

The 36-year-old husband and his wife, 37, whom officials did not identify, were watching television in their bedroom at their Cedar Avenue home when they heard a loud crash in another part of the house at 9:45 p.m. Thursday. When they investigated, they were met by two armed men in their kitchen, Volusia County sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said.

The couple ran back to their bedroom where the husband grabbed a handgun and went after the armed men, who then bolted through the front door, Haught said.

No one was injured in the incident, Haught said.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is hoping a reward of up to $12,000 will generate tips about those responsible for this or any other home invasion in the county. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigator Greg Seymour 386-668-3830 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 888-277-TIPS (8477).

Even though it worked out, I'll bet the GG wishes he had his gun on him when this went down! It's a little frightening how the BGs a so bold and violent these days.

This went down in the wrong order didn't it? Hear noise, investigate, find intruders, THEN get gun? Would have gone much better in the following order: HAD gun, heard noise, investigated, scared off/offed intruders.

Yep, that's what I was thinking.
    Investigate noise without weapon???
Could have ended up real bad!!
    Glad it did not.

Ditto on all of the above...

I also would be delivering lots of lead to anyone moving inside my home...that's a MAJOR threat as far as I'm concerned.
Bold BG's deserve a bold and violent reaction when inside another's house..

Stay armed...when investigating noises inside the home...stay safe!

Couldn't agree more. I can't imagine someone's thinking to go and investigate noises in the middle of the night and not take your firearm. They are both very lucky.

    Good for the homeowner.
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...

Good for the homeowner. He got the job done.

I wonder what the intruders were armed with?

    Turned out A-OK.
