Catch the BGs, tie them to a tree, castrate them and let them bleed to death. Even that would be to good for what they did. At 93 he could not offer much resistance, must have been someone he could identify. Craig, keep us up to date on this.
Its a shame that youth is wasted on the young.
Senseless, hope they catch whoever did this and give them a IV cocktail. I'm leaning more and more to bringing back public executions. Maybe that will deter some of these wanna be tough guys!
It's nice having the story in the thread itself since news sites often don't keep the stories up very long. Particularly if someone decides to go and read some of the older entries.
POLK COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A 93-year-old man was found dead Thursday morning after an apparent home invasion, the Polk County Sheriff's Office says.
Walter Farley's body was found at around 9:15 a.m. at his residence, 7931 Indian Heights Drive in Lakeland.
Walter's son, Robert Farley, and daughter-in-law left at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to go to a New Year's Eve party at the Red Rose Inn in Plant City. The couple spent the night at the hotel. When they returned home they found that there had been a home invasion and that Walter had been shot to death.
Robert and his wife had been staying with Walter for the past four years to care for him.
The family's neighbors describe Walter as a good man who was still active in the neighborhood.
"We always saw him outside pulling weeds. We'd always say hi," said neighbor Sase Singh. "Our kids went to their house trick or treating, very friendly guy in the neighborhood."
Sheriff Grady Judd calls the homicide a senseless act of violence.
"This was a good solid man in the community. Even though he was 93 he was still active in the Kathleen Historical Society," Judd said. "He was a ham radio operator, he knew Morse code and he was one the community could always depend on to help out in any event."
Judd is calling on the community to help solve the crime. He says investigators don't have a lot to go on. They're not sure how many people they're looking for or what kind of car they were driving.
Detectives say fireworks could have masked the sound of gunshots.
"I was out here last night," Singh said. "We had a party and we didn't hear anything."
Anyone with any information or that saw anything suspicious on or near Indian Heights Drive between 5:30 p.m. Dec. 31 and 9:15 a.m. Jan. 1 is asked to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office at (863) 534-6200, or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward, call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS.
Truly disgusting.
I hope they catch the scumbag(s).
Man, 93!!
At 93 you shouldn't go out like that. Public execution is too good for this guy, I say a slow and painful death more like it.
Trying to leave as large a carbon footprint as possible.

Innocent as doves, wise as serpents, armed like wolves.
to have lived that long and still be active. for all he did all these years this should have been the last thing to happen to him.

Son arrested for shooting death of 93-year-old father - Bay News 9
Even more disgusting. If they are found guilty strap them to the same gurney and give them the IV cocktail together.LAKELAND (Bay News 9) -- Deputies have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a 93-year-old Lakeland man - the victim's son.
Robert Farley, the son of Walter Farley, was arrested Saturday.
Farley has been arrested in connection to the New Year's Eve shooting and killing his father, who Farley and his wife had lived with and cared for over the past four years.
Farley's body was found in the family's Indian Heights home at 9:15 a.m. on New Year's Day. The suspect and his wife had left the home earlier Wednesday evening to spend the night at the Red Rose Inn, and they said they discovered the scene when they returned to the home Thursday morning.
Investigators initially pursued the case as a home invasion turned violent, but on Saturday, they announced that the focus of the investigation had changed.
Investigators are preparing to search Lake Wire for the murder weapon.
Farley will be taken to the Polk County Jail later Saturday afternoon.
